CHI accepts, but I don't know if Murphy does. Also, get ready for all the meatheads to say things like "Murphy isn't good" and "Murphy is overpaid".

Yeah, that's the worry with his M-NTC. Yes, people always say that about Murphy. He's a top 4 who's good in his own end for under 5 mill. I like the player and I think he is better than he has looked in Chicago the past few years

Connor murphy is analytically well below average, in no world is he worth a first especially with that contract

Chicago is one of the worst defensive teams in the entire league. Being "the best" defensive Dman on a horrible team doesn't mean you are good. It means you are less bad. Murphy is getting worse results than any of our defenceman and makes 4+ million.

But the eye test proves he's elite in his end. I have seen him fish the puck out of his net better than anyone else.

It's an overpay for both but neither team has to move the player. Tampa has always overpaid at the deadline to get the right players, that was the idea here

Players tend to perform worse on bad teams. You see that happen all the time. While he does have some bad numbers they should improve in Toronto and purely by the eye test, he looks solid

I think pushing for Murphy would make more sense for the Leafs in the summer - as it stands, they're a top-5 defense in the league right now, so paying deadline prices to add to a strength seems a bit excessive. But with Justin Holl's 21+ minutes a night potentially finding a new home, I could see Murphy being brought in to pick up those minutes on an affordable deal with a few years term - I'd wager that you wind up paying a slightly lower price in the summer, too.

Timo Meier isn't, Rielly didn't when he was the best defenceman on the Leafs. Werensky performs well when healthy on a terrible team. Murphy doesn't

I mean there are always example of players who don't perform worse but that perform better. You're right about that. Generally though player with better players makes you better

Keep Engvall if you can, as he adds no value to the trade with Chicago and the Leafs would be better off keeping him or moving him elsewhere to capture some value back.

Understood, but Leafs fans see value in him and as such, it would be more palatable to trade him for value elsewhere versus the perception the Leafs are paying a 1st plus for Murphy. I don't necessarily agree, but nonetheless to try to appease Leafs fans; many of whom are totally unrealistic about player values as you can see here.

I'm a leafs fan and I honestly can't wait for him to go. I get your point though!

Defensively he's not bad and that's where his value is, but it's worth noting he coughs up the puck at double the rate he's takes away the puck which is a problem of course.

Agreed. He is also the king of the curl back. That's all he does. Drives me crazy
