I'd love to see the leafs do a deadline like this. Get better at both ends without clearly going cup or bust

Then we burn two retention spots we need for our own rental players, end up with an over the hill 2nd and a 4th, and loose Comtois.

Pass

Comtois will be dealt. They are letting him walk in the summer for nothing.

If that's the return I'd rather just keep Myers and trade him after the bonus is paid

In what way does this make them better at both ends? Myers is a trash fire and Comtois is a physical forward who doesn't score. This does nothing but add 4 million in dead cap and reduce our offence

Myers is going to cost you assets to move. He's a trash player

He's owed only a mil after his bonus is paid making him worth something to a team like Arizona helping them reach the floor. They won't get anything back for him but they shouldn't have to pay to move him.

We are having a coaching change next year and we utilize his physicality, he is the kind of player our GM likes, so explain why we would let him walk this summer.

It's your opinion that Myers is trash. I think in the right circumstance he is valuable . The contract is too much. Any trade would have to be 50% retained. I think he would be an upgrade over Benn. Comtois provides little offence but so does Kerfoot. Kerfoot is not physical though. I think it's a small upgrade

Benn is our 8th defenceman! Who cares if Myers may or may not be better. He still doesn't play unless 2 other guys are hurt. Kerfoot isn't as physical but he's way better offensively and defensively. So are hits really that important? Hunt hits a lot and isn't a full time player.

He was good when he won the Calder and has never been that good since. He was let go by Winnipeg because he was a below average 3rd pair defender and has never looked good in Vancouver. He's legit terrible

Actually the Jets tried to resign him but he wanted out and didn't want to resign there

Improvement however small is still improvement. Injuries happen and you need good depth to win in the playoffs. I'd say offense is close but you're right about defense. Hits are very important come playoffs. They can't be the only thing you bring to the team though

He makes 6 million and wouldn't make the Leafs. You can get better than him for way less cap.
