Description
SEE WHAT I DID THERE

Trying to find a home for Patrick Kane, and this obviously would require a pair of older veterans to waiving their no trade clauses in the last year of their contracts, but Calgary could be an intriguing landing spot for Kane. The West looks wide-open this year, with the Avs sputtering and the division leaders (Dallas, Winnipeg, Vegas, & Seattle) all feeling somewhat vulnerable, with major flaws. Calgary returns pretty much the same D-corps & goalie tandem from last year's top 5 defense (only swapping in Mackenzie Weegar in for Oliver Kylington), and the results have been more or less what you want - maybe a little bit of a step back but nothing to me that screams "this is an issue that must be fixed."

But the top 6 took a big hit - swapping out Johnny Gaudreau & Matt Tkachuk for Jonathan Huberdeau & Nazem Kadri. While Kadri is a big upgrade at 2C and lets you put Mickael Backlund at a more appropriate 3C, they did nothing to replace the other winger they lost.

Enter Patrick Kane. I think a 1st/2nd/prospect combo for Kane fully retained is more or less the expected value, and I think that Chicago is okay with taking money back. If they take back Lucic, you're basically at a dollar-in, dollar-out scenario - so if you can get him to waive, you've got a stew going, baby. I pushed the picks back to '24 picks because I think Zary is a very good prospect - one that might be blocked by long-term deals for Kadri & assumedly Elias Lindholm, so in my eyes more expendable than a Jakub Pelletier or Matthew Coronato.

Second trade is just to add some bottom-6 depth - and if *anyone* in the league would know the value of uniting brothers, it would be Daryl Sutter. Money should work barring any other big moves on Calgary's part - as of right now, they have up to $4M in deadline
cap space available. Worst case, you can put Kylington on LTIR - I would assume if there's no noise about him being back yet, it's very unlikely you see him before the end of this season.

I doubt Kane waives his NMC to Calgary but if I’m the hawks I’d ask for this years first. Zary is a nice addition as well.

Ha, sorry! Didn't see your thread - came up with this a bit ago after reading an ACGM with Kane going to LA and while I was saying "LA already has a ton of scoring wingers, they need D" I started wondering who *actually* needs a scoring winger and has a playoff team.

Great minds and all that

I kinda doubt CHI is on Lucic's list, but he's a UFA at the end of the season. So, I wouldn't mind it. Probably make that a 2023 1st though.
