Puljujarvi to Chicago

Created by: boilermaker
Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 18, 2023
Published: Jan. 18, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Supposedly there is a report on Sportsnet (full disclaimer I did not read it) that Puljujarvi's time in Edmonton is at an end and moving him to create some cap space would cost the Oilers their 1st round pick. I volunteer Chicago to get at the head of the line. I would not only take Pulju and the 1st but assuming Edmonton wants some forward depth, I will throw in Anastatiou, 1/2 retained, and Lafferty. Or one or the other if the Oilers need just one depth forward and need the money to pursue a depth defenseman. My thinking is Anastatiou and Lafferty if traded in separate deals would return optimistically a 4th and a 3rd. Oilers get something in return for dumping Pujujarvi which is better than nothing. This also assumes Chicago has a retention slot available due to Kane and/or Toews not waiving their NMC's.

The article :
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/scouts-analysis-how-the-edmonton-oilers-should-approach-trade-deadline/

The quote:
The unfortunate reality is it’s going to cost the Oilers a high draft pick to move him to another team in a trade.

I don't see it happening, but man I would be psyched if we made this move

Keep AA he was an Oiler once and did not meet expectations. No team is trading a 23' 1st just to dump cap especially holland who's hasn't traded a 1st since like 2010.

Fair enough. As for Holland maybe he is desperate to save his job and needs to gain some cap space to needs to improve the team for the Cup run. If you don't want AA fine. Laffery could be a useful PKer and energy guy. Or maybe Domi is worked into the trade with another piece coming back to the Hawks.

Would be terrible asset management by the Oilers.

Holland isn't giving up a 1st round pick to move Pulujarvi.

And AA and Lafferty aren't worth 1st round picks.

To me, Pool Party has neither negative nor positive value. No one is giving up an asset to trade for him, but he shouldn't cost that much to move. Maybe a 4th? Seems it makes most sense to just add him to a trade where Oilers acquire a player (like Domi or Lafferry) for a pick, and Pool Party just comes along to help offset the cap hit.

This is a very optimistic return for the hawks. Lafferty could be a piece but I think it'd realistically be a 2nd coming back to the hawks. Something like laf for a 2nd and puljujarvi. This way the hawks save their retention slot too.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I was just going by the premise of the Sportsnet story saying moving Puljujarvi would cost Edmonton their 1st. I was trying to give something to them in return rather than taking the 1st and running away from the robbery. LOL. If that's not likely, then perhaps some other trade parameters could be worked out. I just want the Hawks to obtain some more 1st or 2nd round picks.
