Hawks decline. Hawks will want more than a 2nd for McCabe and Clague has zero value to Hawks. They've got better options thab him to replace McCabe if he's traded.

And Edmonton definitely declines. No way are they taking on 4 more years of Skinner at a $9m cap hit!

Swap Clague and Bloom in the two deals. Hawks would want a F prospect instead of a D prospect.

What the hell is that Edmonton trade and why is Buffalo giving up 2 of the best players, one who is in a completely different tier than anyone else involved, for a bunch of cap dumps. Did you miss Skinners last 150 games with Granato?

Edmonton would be insane to pass on Skinner when they're dumping an equal amount of cap in dead weight

For the rest of this season only. 3 of the 5 players Sabres are acquiring are UFA's after this season. And the other 2 are UFA's at the end of the 23/24 season. Skinner is a $9m cap hit until 26/27. And Edmonton is one of the most cap strapped teams in the league.

I think I would go for Murphy over McCabe. Value is close- a 2nd plus something. I don't think Philly would have interest in that package. I get that nobody is moving a 23 first, but pushing it to 24 changes the value. I would think they are looking for multiple firsts in value, the only piece with that value is a future first.

Yeah but when that contract will sting Edmonton in 2yrs Edmonton will have 26mill in cap space. Next year they only have about 9 or 10 so it wouldn't even hurt next year really cause Barrie and Yamamoto cover it.

Might not even be worth a 2nd

I like McCabe & Konecny, but think you’re paying a bit too much for each

The Oilers trade doesn’t make any sense to me though

Calm down on your laughing guy. While I think he's worth a 2nd but that's not to say he can't go for more or slightly less. Any assumption otherwise is out of touch with the reality of what happens at the TDL in the league

You're probably right. I was trying to find a way to swap Skinner for Konecny, save some money, with the idea to then sign Horvat in the off season.

I think it would be tough to add both with the kids we’ve gotta pay the next few years
Love that idea though if we could make the Cap work

Maybe we can finesse the Cap a bit with some bridge contracts for the kids, in order to give time for the Cap to go up a bit more for us- but that’ll likely still be tough

If the Hawks are asking for a first for McCabe, then I would say he’s not getting traded. He’s a really good player and a bright spot, but a lot of teams cannot afford to take the full cap hit and he’s also not a top pair defenseman. On most teams, he’s a borderline #4-5 defenseman, great for your bottom pair, can be a very good Second pair D with the right partner. The other issue is that there are too many defenseman available for trade who can make a case for a first round pick return that teams will shoot for before him.

But I do think he can get a nice return of a second, an additional pick and a prospect and maybe a roster player. If that’s the price; I think he’s staying.

Well said. I agree with you. Hawks are very happy with McCabe's play this year. Looks fully recovered from his knee surgery. He's signed for two more years at a reasonable cap hit so Hawks don't "have" to move him. I feel the Hawks will want a strong offer to move McCabe or their happy to hang on to him.
