Isles aren't even making the playoffs, And no they're not giving up Raty and Wahlstrom for rentals in Horvat and Kuzmenko 2 players they financially can't afford.

So the Isles give up: their best D prospect & their best forward prospect, plus arguably their best U23 forward on the NHL team, plus another NHL caliber D in Salo plus this year's 1st for a trio of rentals - do I have it right? Why would they help kickstart the Canucks rebuild at the expense of their already abysmal farm system? They're not currently in a playoff spot, and while they can still make a run, going "all in" when you're technically not "in" is an absolutely bonkers, and terrible, move to make.

Canucks can probably get more value trading those pieces separately

Maybe not looking at it again, but it’s close imo. Could get more that fits their needs is probably a better way to put it

Kuzmenko gets a 1st and a small add. Horvat probably gets at least two 1sts of value, if not more. Schenn gets at least a 3rd, maybe a 2nd

Isles are giving up one 1st, one top prospect probably worth a 1st (Raty). Salo and Odelius don’t really do much for the Canucks since they have enough LHD already. Wahlstrom is solid but not really any better than Hoglander and Podkolzin who the Canucks aren’t even playing right now

Trying to break it down, I’d say 1st + Raty + Odelius for Horvat, Salo for Schenn, Wahlstrom for Kuzmenko. I’d do the Horvat part, but not the Schenn or Kuzmenko parts when it’s broken down like that (could be talked into the Schenn part though, don’t know too much about Salo, just no need for LHD)

Not saying the Isles do this trade either, just saying it doesn’t fit many of the Canucks needs (apart from the 1st and Raty)

So basically yes you are high. There is 0 chance horvat gets near that much. Salo is probably the wrong piece also seems like you don’t know much about odelius which makes sense I wouldn’t expect you to but you seem to be underrating him. And as much as wahlstrom production has struggled look at his advanced stats when he’s out there the isles create a lot of scoring chances. And yes he’s most certainly better than hoglander and better than podkolzin. There’s a reason he doesn’t play while wahlstrom does (injured rn but plays top line when healthy).

I doubt Kuzmenko brings back a 1st. He's a rental whose production is based mostly on a bunch of PPG and a ridiculously high shooting percentage (literally 2nd highest in the league). Granted there are some dumb GM's out there, but pretty much anyone can see he's a good candidate to regress over the 2nd half of the season.
