Chychrun

Created by: Caniac2000
Team: 2022-23 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 19, 2023
Published: Jan. 19, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With the cap space accured at the deadline, the Rangers would be safely under the cap. It just seems like a very natural fit. Chychrun takes the RD spot from Trouba in the summer, allowing the Rangers to clear up 8 million by firing him into the sun. Nothing against Trouba, he's just overpaid for what he is. Genuinely curious to see the thoughts of Ranger fans here.

If I am Arizona, I take this deal. That being said, would NYR make a trade where they give up that much for a defenceman you have slotted into the bottom pairing?

Very interesting take here.
Not crazy about giving up both 1sts…but if that locks down the D for years to come then you have to consider.
Key to the whole thing though is perceived ability to move Trouba after the season…NMC still in effect- and other teams will know NYR are bent over the barrel to move him. So with that in mind, unless Goodrow is in this deal (to provide a little Cap cushion) I don’t think it goes down.

I'd give up more for him if it came down to it. He and Schneider should make up the middle pair, with Key on the top pair and Lindy (despite being massively overqualified for it) on the bottom pair to shore it up and minimize the damage captain elbows will do.

he would not play bottom pair. he is miles better than lingdren too but he would probably end up on the second pair.

Lindgren is WAY better defensively than Chychrun. Lindgren is majorly underrated for his defensive capabilities and he does really help take the defensive strain off of Fox. The issue is, Trouba needs the same thing and there's only 1 Ryan Lindgren.

Don't like giving up two 1sts. But it's tempting. Would prefer to give 2023 1st, 3rd, 2025 4th, Hajek, Jones - good players not getting any opportunities because they are stuck behind a logjam - and Blais if they want him - good player, hits, good hands, just not finding his groove with the NYR.

The reported asking price is 2 1sts +, which is why it's structured this way. I have to think if you only want to include one first, the Yotes are going to be asking for Othmann, and that's straight up not worth it.

i think lindgdren is a better fit for sure with fox, i dont want to take away anything from lingdren, i think he is quite good. but i would say overall chych is the better defenseman, and more of a first pairing guy than lingdren is. its just that the rangers have a norris offensive dmen on their first pair already. Chych would probably even be better than trouba on tthe left side on that second pair too. but i get your point, i did not mea to bring lingdren down, i mostly wanted to praise chych who really was an horrendous team his whole life.

I dont touch that deal as the Rangers. Take out a first, retain half, and maybe.

To get half retained for 3 years, you're likely looking at ANOTHER 1st, not taking one out, this is the reported ask, and New York is one of the few teams in the NHL that could give up the pick and not have to worry about either of them being from future drafts

Why are they giving up and spending that much on their 6th dman?

Chychrun would become the best LD on the roster instantly. He's better than even K'Andre Miller with the season he is having, he's better than Lindgren. Not to mention, he can play both sides, he's under team control for 3 years. He'd fit almost perfectly into the Rangers deadline cap space, and he's only 24. Why wouldn't they spend this on a player who undoubtedly is an improvement on Ben Harpur and Libor Hajek?
