Just Fired Dorion

Created by: Julesens
Team: 2022-23 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 20, 2023
Published: Jan. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Okay so since Twitter is going crazy, just imagine for 2 seconds the Sens' new owners fire DJ and PD TODAY. What happens next?

Welcome to my "realistic" rendering of the team:

Idk any LA fans and I know y'all don't know any LA fans so.... is a 3+4 fair for Roy? Nobody in Ottawa knows anything about this guy aside from random analytics and the Kings could use that 3.1 mil + roster space for a young RHD. I know he's good, but how good?

Gotta flip Zaitsev to make the money work so... here's an option for a trade. Classic.

Who knows what happens w Hamonic + Holden so let's just assume they stay. IF they get flipped at the deadline it'll be for very late picks anyways.

If we roll w the Sens current development strategy, JBD is probably a 6th pair/7th D guy this season. I want him next to Chabot but who knows.

Argue away in the comments, remember it's not that serious, we're all just fans.

No, we won't be trading Matt Roy for a couple of draft picks. He'd only be going (with quite a bit more) for Jake Sanderson, and there's no way you guys are doing that.

Kings are hoping for a playoff run, so I don't see why they would be sellers, even if your offer is fair.

First of all, Roy isn't being traded because he's too important to the make-up of the Kings current defense. He's criminally underrated in the capfriendly world outside of the LA fanbase because numbers trump everything when you don't know much about a player, and producing numbers is not his job. But for the sake of conversation:

LA wouldn't accept anything less than a 1st + another good asset for Roy. He's their best defensive D-man not named Doughty, and he and Mikey Anderson are the only ones that can consistently eat minutes currently. Its why the Kings are looking for another piece for their blue line to pair with him. For the price of a 2nd, the Kings would move Sean Walker because he's replaceable with the prospects they have in the pipeline. With LA moving Faber out for Fiala, there's no current replacement for the type of minutes Roy provides in the King's system. So, Roy is going to be more expensive than most think if they want to pry him out of LA.

Zero chance LA is trading Roy, try for Walker or Durzi

Cool, thanks for explaining. Judging Walker vs Roy, obviously anyone would prefer Roy, and the Sens need his type more than anything, Gotta hope lol

Yah Don't; see any way they are letting him go with a playoff run coming.

Also, I would Fire DJ before I fire Dorian.

In terms of draft picks, Roy is worth either:

    1. a late 1st + a 3rd

    2. two 2nds, one of which needs to be for 2023

However, draft picks is not what the Kings need.

They need solid left shot defencemen instead like a Chabot or a Sanderson.

Yeah I get that, we are also rumoured to be chasing Chychrun so... best of luck!

For sure, that thought process totally makes sense. Roy's value to LA is infinitely higher than Walkers, especially right now. Walker isn't playing poorly by any means, he just plays different minutes and in different situations than Roy.

GMs have to be appear like they're working. Besides California or Ottawa in January.....that's an easy choice. I just think the Kings might want a veteran for their playoff push. Wondering if it could be goalie Talbot.

Yeah the thing is the Sens need a stay at home more than a puck mover, got too many of those. Walker would pair next to... probably nobody ideally in OTT. Roy would fit everywhere. Must be nice to have the RHD depth that LA does right now lol

For this year I'd happily part w Talbot for Roy but nobody else. OTT is in a crucial phase of the rebuild and LA clearly needs D or G... thing is they could cover both with a single Arizona trade. Guess we'll see

Honestly it depends, PD wants to save his job and we have a lot of mid F prospects in the system. God damn LA is so well built to emerge from a rebuild

There’s probably like 4-5 Dmen I’d consider moving Sanderson for for in the nhl and only 2 id 100% move him for
