Additional Details:
We know that Uncle Fitzy offered the 2nd overall pick last year before the draft to Calgary for Matthew. So would he do it for Brady? Probably. Ottawa needs a RD, but I doubt they are looking to move their captain.

Tkachuk would check a lot of boxes for us: (1) he can be the interior player, net-front forward that we so desperately need; (2) he can play wing or center and serve in the role that Haula, Mercer and others have done on Jack's line; (3) brings toughness; (4) has term.

Other pieces probably involved.

Is there a path to 'yes' here?

nah, it's just a complete non-option. Brady is the heart and soul of the team, along with being their current best point producer. the entire roster and culture was built around Brady Tkachuk. he simply cannot be traded for anything less than a player upgrade that is so obscene that the Sens have no option but to say yes. Besides, Nemec isn't even what the Sens need. They need a stable, experienced defensive/two-way guy on the right side, rather than to set the rebuild process back a couple more years

We are not moving Brady unless it's a massive overpayment.

To have any chance of enticing us, you'll need to offer something like what Calgary got for his brother Matthew.

Dude, I really appreciate the hope, but OTT will never trade Brady. He is too much of an identity guy for the team + Tkaptain.

Nemec is nice but unproven. He's not getting any captain other than maybe Horvat as a rental. NJ should hold their prospects this year and watch the team elevate to god status. They're gonna be that good

Ottawa wouldn’t do it, but, I think New Jersey would because they have Luke Hughes, so they don’t need defenders (though you can never have enough)

Simon Nemec, isn't Cale Makar. You're not getting Brady Tkachuk for a guy who hasn't played a single NHL game yet.

I think Ottawa fans are misreading what a Tkachuk is...there is no heart and soul, just dollar signs. Don't get me wrong, any Tkachuk is a fine mercenary, but don't be surprised to see Brady whine his way out of town when the right opportunity arrives.

There needs to be something like Holtz going with Nemec. That would work for both teams. Brady won't stay around long enough to win anything.

If they miss the playoffs next year, I could expect it happening

Even if they make the playoffs and look like they could be ready to take the next step, Brady will still want out. Canada doesn't suit Tkachuks.

It’s fine he’s still under contract with quite a bit of term left and Ottawa won’t have to sell him for less than he’s worth . He’s also best friends with Norris

And you can watch him tank his own value while there is term until you sell at a low.

Lol. That comment right there sounds like someone who hates the Sens lmao. If Brady Tkachuk wanted out, you bet there would be 20+ teams lined up with offers Lmao

No hate for tbe Sens, just the Tkachuks. I actually think the whole family is good hockey players, they just are a little selfish. And of course teams would like to trade for Brady...but if he asks to get out and doesn't get his way, he could give a lot less effort and diminish his trade value.

We know in the weeks before the draft that Fitzgerald was open to moving the pick for specific players. We also know that they were down to a list of two for the draft (probably Slafkovsky and Nemec), so they were not likely looking for a trade down.

We also know, from multiple reports, that Devils GM (who is the Tkachuk brothers' uncle) made a play for Matthew Tkachuk early in the process. We don't know for sure what the offer was, but it likely included the 2nd overall pick. Pierre Lebrun reported later that the Devils and Flames had a number of discussions before the draft, but at the time, Calgary had still been trying to re-sign their winger. Once Tkachuk decided not to re-sign in Calgary, the draft had already taken place and free agency had already landed Palat in New Jersey.

There is a chance NJD made a second attempt after the draft too. Devils acquired Marino the day before Tkachuk finalized his list. The suspicion at the time was that the Marino acquisition would lead to the eventual trade of Severson (instead of extension). Since Severson and Weegar are similar players, so one could imagine Calgary could have had interest there. So perhaps, they took another stab at Tkachuk later on too.

Cale Makar wasn't Cale Makar in October of 2017.

Simon Nemec hasn't turned 19 yet. When Makar was the same age as Nemec is today, he had yet to play a game in NCAA, let alone professional hockey.
