Seen this Domi trade proposal before. Domi is worth the 2nd, but where is the compensation for relieving Edmonton of the Puljujarvi cap hit?

Players like Pulju always get at least a 2nd chance. Someone will give it to him. On an expiring contract just to balance cap, no compensation is necessary. He's not a cap dump. Somebody would take him for free because there is no commitment beyond this season.

I've read Holland has been trying to move him since last summer, but no one has met the asking price and the asking price keeps going down. And it's been recently reported that it will cost EDM to move him.

The only way a team will get him for free if he is waived. It still does not mean to me he should be thrown into a trade. Cap space is a valuable commodity in today's NHL. If EDM wants to gain his 3M cap space it should cost them.

That's my point. He'd be claimed on waivers so would not cost to dump. At least he's a warm body to finish the season for a team trading multiple players away and/or dealing with injuries.
If Chicago wants extra for taking Pulju, that might just be one less team interested in Domi or it might mean Pulju is removed from the deal. It doesn't mean he's a cap dump.

I think the Hawks probably accept. Doesn't cost 'em anything to take a flyer on Pool Party

Guess we have to agree to disagree on this one. If Hawks GM takes on Puljujarvi without additional compensation,it could be construed as a favor to Holland for taking on the Pulju cap hit allowing Holland to spend that much more at TDL.

So next year Davidson wants to make deals with other clubs. Dubas says hey you did the Oilers a favor, you want my guy, take this other guy I don't want making 3M. Nils says do me a favor, you want my guy and something else, take back a 3rd round pick instead of a 2nd. Yzerman says do me a favor, you want my guy and something else, take back this lesser prospect instead of a better one.

Guess we'll wait and see what happens with Puljujarvi.

It's not a favor. It's equal salaries instead of retention and Chicago gets a player that maybe clicks in a new situation on top of a 2nd. Now they can still retain on 3 players as well, resulting in more returns.

Sure. But no one is gonna give him the qualifying offer he is due as an RFA. He will get something close to the league minimum after he becomes a UFA. Therefore his RFA rights are worth nothing and he is a cap dump.

The more important question here is why in the hell are you giving a 3rd and a 4th for Lazar? Buddy has 2pts in 35 games and has never been more than fringe 4th liner.
