8 years puts him to 35, add in helly and scheifele heading for the wrong side of 30, starting to get a lot of the payroll on the wrong side of 30, just a tougher place to rebuild without any ufas to come speed it up.

Rebuild is coming ready or not, with life span of Lowry/scheifele/helly/wheeler, possibly a retool with ehlers/Connor/morrissey, but a ton is deciding on this summer and the Dubois/scheifele/helly contracts, before I spend the assets and contract extension on Meier, got to know Dubois status and also what the scheifele and helly camp are looking for, which could basically force somewhat of a rebuild/retool in themselves. Doubling down on current group with so much up in the air could be rough on the next gm if it hits wrong.

Jets dont really have the prospect I would look for in a Meier deal. Also no way he extends 8 years there
