Way too early Sabres roster projection V1

Created by: Boos
Team: 2023-24 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 21, 2023
Published: Jan. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Quick notes:

--D, Ian Cole would be my No.1 off-season priority followed by D, Carson Soucy. It's a one or the other deal here.
--I can see the Sabres making a choice between Girgensons and Okposo for the fourth line with the nod going to the latter and Acciari being a definitive upgrade over the former
--The Sabres will need to make some tough decisions and what to do with Rasmus Asplund is one of them. A trade somewhere for a mid-round pick (or an equivalent RFA) seems like a possibility.

One other quick note:

I believe Savoie will be in no-man's land next season as CHL rules won't allow him to play in the AHL, meaning his only other option to another junior season is playing on the big club (or overseas, but that seems unlikely). Anyone have any clarification on this?

Yes cause of his Birthday he either plays for the Sabres or goes to Juniors. And it sucks cause I believe it's only by 1 day.

That 4th Line LW is a problem. Jost has the 3rd L C, w/ his chemistry w/ Mitts and Olof. To me Krebs could play it, but he would be the 4th or 5th C, not a LW, and definately not on the 4th Line. We need a defensively responsible LW on the 4th like Girgs, or a M.Nieto, someone who can play on the PK, Krebs is not that guy.

One other quick note:... There is a lot to like about this post, a really good prediction. Maybe not Carson or Ian but certainly defensemen to improve the team.

He certainly could find his way into the Buffalo line up even next year, but one more year in Juniors would not hurt either. He could possibly start in Rochester in the 2024-25 season before being an early call up.

Completely agree, when 28-19-21 are on the ice, they may not have the ability to score many goals but they keep the puck in the offensive zone.
While the team is playing really well this year, they need to upgrade over undersized Bryson and hit happy Lyubushkin.
Please let's not give up on Girgensons, thank goodness that Krebs and Olofsson tickled the twines twice each yesterday.
Getting FOUR goals from the bottom six is a luxury that championship teams will display.
Making the playoffs is still a possibility but not worth spending draft of prospect capital this year to bring about.

I agree with Savoie, Juniors really doesn't do anything for him though, shame Rochester is not a option next year. It's nice the 3rd line is playing very well right know, hope they keep it up, but decisions will need to be made on Mitts and Olofsson. Time for the Sabres to move forward in there building process, are they part of the future or not because you have prospects that are getting close.

Yes, this is way one can sustain a dynasty, adding players as Savoie, Rosen, Kulich while trading away Mittelstadt, Olofsson, and others for future draft picks.
I am not a big fan of TDL deals (some are necessary), as only one team wins the cup and all of the other teams wasted future assets chasing a dream.
Sign a couple of defensemen this year, get more production out of Peterka, Quinn, Power and Luukkonen and we can see the playoffs on the horizon.
While it will not make or break the season, the next five games (Stars, Blues, Jets, Wild and Cames0 could foreshadow how the season will end.
Regardless, the pundits were wrong predicting 13th or 14th in the east, Buffalo will not be a bottom feeder and will finish the season with between 88 and 95 pts.
If Levi proves to be Hasek reincarnated, we will see multiple cups in the future.

Krebs is in no-man's land, really. Right now he may only project as a bottom-six player. Jost is better and worthy of a multi-year deal in Buffalo. And come to think of it, Krebs probably wouldn't be as good on the wing as he doesn't like to muck it up in the corners. I just don't see him through the same lens as a lot of fans in Sabreland.

If you look at the way the defense is laid out, Bryson drops down to a reserve role, which is where he should be. Kid's got a lot going against him size-wise but he handles himself well. Just don't put him in a top-four role like they were forced to due earlier in the season. He gets caved going against top players but in a bottom-pair/reserve role, he does just fine.

I'd be happy with making the playoffs first...baby steps.

Agree, I am a big proponent of fixing the D, 90% of my fake AGM's are dealing for a Dman or signing one. There will be a few out there to chose from. Could sign 2 right from New Jersey in FA that would help immensely. I think Murphy would help, but he would cost assets. But if you keep both Mitts and Olofsson after this year, kinda puts a ? on what there really doing. I mean are you signing them long-term or what

I agree, next week is going to tell a lot. I hope we make the Playoffs obviously, only because we've had so many good offensive years.

I'm not expecting much of anything at the TDL. Am thinking that we might see a Nathan Beaulieu for a conditional 7th round pick type deal. Which I'm OK with. We have a very likeable, young, talented team.

Was wrong about the number of years on a Cozens extension, but it makes sense they'd tuck him in just under Tage's AAV
