Would the Canes be interested in Miller

Created by: CEO
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks

Description
Who adds what?
Trades
CAR
  1. Miller, J.T.
Additional Details:
Their deals expire the same year, but the Canes are contender. JT is more useful to them than Vancouver. JK is a slow progressing forward. By the time he becomes a star, which he might, the Canes might be out of their window. The Canucks would be reaching it. Who adds what?

Canucks don't do that...yet. Maybe in another two years?

Can't imagine any team wanting 8m X 7 Miller. Your theory about the cap and term exchange for KK does make sense. But the Canes have two full seasons to determine if they really want to keep KK at his contract as for the next three summers, his buyout is very inexpensive.(due to his age)

They would easily do that to get out from under that deal

I got a chuckle out of this.

I’m not the highest on Kotka but that Miller contract is going to be very challenging to move considering his age and player profile.

I think Friedman said it well last night. You have one option with Miller, buy in. That contract isn't moving. You need to work with him to get back to a place where he was.

No team is taking that...maybe in 4 years and at a significant cost. That aside, I love the trade idea, in the scenario Canucks would need to add or retain salary.

No they wouldn't. Rutherford didn't extend Miller because he's senile. By the time that contract is halfway done, the Cap will be 100 million. There's nothing wrong with it, unless team holding it decides to go on a complete rebuild.

There is not a team in the league that takes Millers contract at full cost.

What if someone like, for example, Jamie Benn was coming back?

By the time the contract is halway done miller will be 34 years old. He is already a write off defensively and by then likely will be at best a 50 point guy.

Any benefits from a increase in cap will be countered by his decrease in ability. Its a horrible contract.

In a deal for KK? God no. Kotkaniemi is the Jordan Staal replacement. Miller doesn't play defense so that rules him out of a RBA system anyway, but lets ignore that. Carolina cannot afford to extend Horvat for less than 8. Why are they suddenly taking on a deal that is more expensive?

It has Zero to do with his play or term!
JT LeDouche is a locker room nightmare.
Nobody takes him on...

The Canes weren’t interested in Miller prior to his extension, why would they be now?
