Isn't it wild that Tage will be making less than Cozens tho? And Caufield more than Suzuki? Still can't wrap my head around that

Players playing better than their deals doesn’t mean others won’t be paid

Am projecting Cozens at 8/$56.8M which puts his $7.1M cap-hit just under Tage.

We're thinking Zegras comes in around 7.5 mil AAV (+- 250k) for 8 years. Two guys from his draft class got 8 and 7, he was taken between them, and produces about the same as them.

        Might get 8 though.

I think Cozens could be convinced to take a dollar less than Thompson, also wouldn't be surprised if Tuch also got a new contract also 7.1 million 7 years

Tage contract won't be comparision to next ones. Tage signed below value deal, because he was not in position to wait or risk everything for couple more $. Cozens will be looking between Boldy, Hintz range.

Roope Hintz came off a bridge contract that paid him $3.15M where he posted 159 points (71+88) in 161 games (basically a point/game) over the three years of that contract. His $8.4M AAV is well deserved. Cozens won't reach that level even with the pace he's producing at.

Although I get the Boldy contract, he's in the final year of his ELC and has potted 29 goals and added 42 assists in 92 games. That's a lot of cheese for numbers like that. Don't get me wrong, he looks like a good one and good for the Wild for locking him up. Cozens had very modest numbers (17+34 in 120 games) in the two previous years and is enjoying a breakout season. In looking at the Boldy number, an AAV of $7.1M is a very good number for Cozens, one that I think is right on.

You are not paying for post production, but for potential. Cozens is somewhere between those guys. And those are most recent extension for RFA with potential.

        What's your number?

Edit: and btw, isn't past performance at least somewhat indicative of potential?

        My number will be 8x8.

Obviously it's more complicted, but with those young player you are not paying him to stay, let's say 50 pts player, but you pay him, for what he can be, when he was 50pts player at age 22. Worst case scenario you have slightly overpaid 50 pts player - see Jeff Skinner

        I have a feeling.

That Connor Bedard will be in a Columbus sweater next year.
