Is PLD worth that…..yup….are the habs going to pay it? Unlikely

With all the rumours that he wants to play here, plus taking over Vinnies charity etc….they will probably wait and see if he walks in a couple years.

Think less fluff and filler and more quality. The only piece with any value to Winnipeg is the first. So this deal wouldn't garner any interest from Winnipeg.

If Dubois is traded it won't be until the summer, so the protection on the first won't be an issue. They'll know where the first is.

Well Farrell is one of our top prospect at F. He's in the NCAA, so we don't hear much about him. Habs haven't pick in the CHL much lately so not many good recognizable canadian prospects.

And it's not like the Jets have that much leverage - habs won't trade the moon for a 60 pts player that will be paid a premium to do a Drouin 2.0.

In WPG's shoes - I would also prefer to get more from him - 100%

I don't know what 60 point player you're talking about, we're talking about PLD coming from Winnipeg. A 24 YO 1C that world be Montreal's best player by quite a fair margin. How did a trash player like Drouin get into this discussion?

I can understand not wanting to pay a fair price for PLD, but if the Jets need to trade him, they'll do alright and get pieces they need with minimal fluff pieces coming back. All fans dream of getting a great player while giving up nothing of value, it just never happens in reality though. So, while those pieces may have value to you, they are pieces every team has in spades and don't carry much value to anyone else.

We heard the Jets didn't have much leverage when trading Kane and Trouba yet Chevy still won both trades.

The Drouin joke is about how Québécois players become trash once they sign here.

At the same time - I believe that you may undervalue habs prospect because the habs themselves are trash. The flip side, trash team are filled with great prospects.

Additionally, if you look at MTL's trades - the players usually blossom out of Montréal as we are curse like that.

Exhibit A: Lekhonen in COL.

Anyway - It will always depend on the market - I'm 95% convinced there is a better offer somewhere.

However, if teams are convinced OR told that PLD doesn't want to resign with them - the market might cool down. This factor might obviously be BS... but where there is smoke, there is fire.

Yeah, I guess we'll see. I agree as well that if PLD does end up being moved it will most likely be somewhere other than Montreal.

If he wants to get to UFA to maximize his earning potential, there will be no shortage of teams that would be after him, so the odds of Montreal having the right combination of money and lifestyle to win that bidding war would be pretty slim.

The only wild card as you said though is if PLD puts any limiters on where he wants to go if he won't sign any extension in Winnipeg.

Exactly, Chevy doesn't need or have to do PLD or the habs any favour - the fantasy is fun, but it remains far fetched - unless a player like Caufield is involved...

I think the jets are better off taking him to arbitration again and settling for a one year deal before he hits UFA.
