How is this bad for the avs. Girard is inconsistent and not worth it at times. Also Horvat fills 2c. Hoglander for Newhook is a swap.

Vancouver defense is terrible and needs an upgrade. The only way to do this is dumping Myers.

Is that a serious question? It’s a ridiculous overpay. Girard has more value than horvat due to his contract. Newhook probably does too. I know there’s an extension here, but that barely changes it from a rental price given precedent set by other trades.

Newhook is better than Hoglander, Girard is not inconsistent, hes been steady defensively. Horvat isnt worth 8m+ aav so over paying for 2nd line C who is probably the 6th best player on the roster?
This is just awful on so man levels

    This is an awful take.

Newhook > Hoglander. Hoglander isn’t even in the NHL right now. But let’s just take them out of the equation to make this easier.

Avs give up a 24 year old defenseman with term and two top 60 picks for a pending UFA and a 4th.

Then you sign Horvat to a big deal that the Avs can’t afford. In. 2023-2024, the Avs won’t be able to ice a full lineup with MacKinnon’s $12.6M contract. You’ll have to sign 4 bottom 6 forwards (replacing Compher, Helm, Rodrigues, Cogliano), extend Byram, extend Hoglander, extend Meyers, sign a top 4 defenseman (replacing Girard), and sign a bottom pair defenseman (replacing Erik Johnson).

You have <$12M to find contracts for those 9 roles. Good luck with that. You just shut the cup window.

Think it's going to cost more than a 2nd and 5th to dump both Myers and Pearson. There are plenty of ufa for Chicago to get to cap floor or more desperate teams willing to pay more.
