Time to Actually Rebuild - TDL Part 1

Created by: LetsPlayThatHockey
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 23, 2023
Published: Jan. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ignore the order of the lines they don’t mean anything. I also just went with the lines from the cap friendly page to give you a base of what I’m going from.

The Taxi Squad is just to show him. I would keep him in the OHL for the rest of the year for him to keep working on development.

Jake Livingstone is a 6’3’’ right handed defenseman out of the Minnesota State Mankato. He is the best UFA College hockey player to the ranking sites. He is exactly what the team needs and I would throw everything plus the kitchen sink to get him. It also doesn’t hurt that he is from the area.

One thing I’m 100% sold on is if Kuzmenko can be resigned. I would do it if he is willing to. But if he says he wants to test the free agency waters I think it forces the hand of the front office and for a solid player I would try to get what I can. He is on an inexpensive contract this year and could help push a pontential playoff team over the edge. Here in this scenario I did trade him. And think I got a good return for him.

These moves would definitely accelerate the tank for Bedard. This is definitely a lot of moves to do before the trade deadline, but I think that they would start the changes that this organization needs.

Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Wennberg, Alexander
  2. Wright, Shane
  3. 2023 1st round pick (SEA)
Additional Details:
The Seattle 1st this year would be mid 20s or so. I would grant them lottery protection this year for an unprotected ‘24 if that made them feel better. Wright would be that top end prospect that Vancouver would want and Wennberg would be an NHL player that has a high enough cap that it would be a benefit to signing Bo long term. Also with another C its getting a bit crowded down the middle.
If Seattle would want some retention (don’t know why they would it would cost time a late 4th or 5th. But don’t think its a problem with Wennberg going the other way.
SEA
  1. Horvat, Bo
Additional Details:
Either a sign and trade is in place. (Which I know if rare in hockey). At least Horvat’s management would need to be able to discuss a long term extension prior to the trade. If I were to guess maybe 8.5-9 x 8.
2.
VAN
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (WSH)
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Or maybe its 2 thirds. It could be the last of their 2nd round picks in ‘24 which ever that maybe. But I think the value is close there.
ARI
  1. Boeser, Brock
Additional Details:
Brock is in need of a new change of scenery. He has been through a lot with the passing of his father and the chaos that has been following this Vancouver franchise. I think a new change of scenery could help him get back to his scoring ways.
Just think of a line with Keller on the Left, Boeser on the Right with Cooley down the middle. Just saying. Arizona has stock pilled picks for a reason. And because of Arizona’s cap situation retention wouldn’t be needed, which would help Vancouver.
3.
VAN
  1. Hunt, Daemon
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
The Wild are loaded on the left side and they may make a trade for a solid prospect in Hunt that may be stuck in the log jam and a 3rd next year. I know some places say a second this year. But if you can refill that cupboard of prospects that is pretty thin this might be the way to go. Jack Peart might also be a play here, but I’ll stick with Hunt for now. This is a bit like the Middleton trade that the Wild did last year. Not exactly, but up the same alley.
MIN
  1. Schenn, Luke
Additional Details:
This is dependent on if Minnesota trades Matt Dumba. And if they do they are going to need a cheap expiring contract to do so and Schenn fits the bill. Also if they move a few players around he might be able to squeeze in next year but that is asking a lot.
4.
VAN
  1. Gunler, Noel
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
This seems like a fair price a solid prospect not there very top but a good one and a 2nd for a PPG player.
CAR
  1. Kuzmenko, Andrei ($300,000 retained)
Additional Details:
I did the retention to make sure the trade goes through. The retention for half a year will meaning nothing to the Canucks, but it would help the trade go through. And maybe an addition of a late pick could be some compensation.
After Max went down to an injury this could be a good rental and someone they maybe able to resign long term in the offseason.

Nucks fans are high with these Horvat trades. In no universe will Seattle trade Wright and a 1st for him.

laugh Horvat trade is a joke, You won't even get Wright for Horvat let alone Seattle adding their 1st on top of it. And Horvat wants to play near home. No way is he signing with Seattle.

Yeah don't think Arizona is going to be wanting Boeser. He makes a lot of money and they are still stockpiling and rebuilding. No need to trade picks for him when he could be gone in 2 years

Probably not getting Schenn for a 3rd. He probably goes at the TDL for a 2nd and overripe prospect or really raw prospect.

That's okay with me. He can go somewhere else for that. He's not worth Hunt.

I would take that. Never thought I would hear those words coming out of my mouth in a Vancouver trade, but there you go.

Serious question, hypothetical.
If Horvat signed a reasonable extension, say 7 million, 7 years, would Shane Wright and a 1st get it done for Horvat and a 2023 1st? Not gonna say 2024, that's just nonsense. What if the Vancouver 1st were lottery protected? Top 3 protected? Top 5 protected? If the protected picks happen, Seattle gets a 2023 2nd and an unprotected 2024 1st.

Just curious. Seattle gets to trade Shane Wright and a mid round prospect for a known commodity in his prime (high 2C) and a likely top 10 prospect this year or next (or higher depending on lottery protection).

The thing with Hunt was I think that he is going to get stuck behind a line of players and trading him for an asset like Schenn.

Not sure why Ron Francis would want to trade a franchise Centerman in Shane Wright, But yeah i'd imagine Wright and a 1st should get it done plus maybe a lesser piece going to Vancouver as well.

Zero chance i see Horvat accepting 7x7 depending if it's a sign and trade i'd imagine 8x8.5mil gets it done. But if i'm Allvin/Rutherford and Seattle really wants Horvat i don't accept anything less than Wright and a 1st and maybe a cap dump for Horvat.

He might very well be leading that line as it stands now. There's Brodin, then there's Hunt/Lambos/O'Rourke, then there's Peart. There's no reason to trade him for a 6/7D on an expiring contract.

That’s along the lines of what I was thinking for Horvat it really comes down to Horvat for Wright and a 1st. Wennberg is there to create some cap space for next year. But it would definitely require an extension in place. Horvat is a known commodity. Vancouver will be looking for a 1st and top prospect. Maybe Wright was a bit rich but if I’m Vancouver I’m asking for the world before needing to except reality.

Good point. Lambos is supposed to be top dog I thought, but yeah see where it shakes out. I just think over the long haul one of them will be traded

If they're all good enough to where one has to be traded, that's a good problem to have, and you get a lot more than Luke Schenn for it.
