That would be the sticking point.
I'd give half of what we received for Eichel and Risto

Ostlund, Rosen and the Vegas 2nd....so for Eichel, Risto and a 23 2nd we get Tuch Meier Krebs and the Philly 2nd, sound right?

Basically, sounds about right. Take it

3 pts out of what? A Stanley Cup? We're 27 points behind BOS. Meier doesn't close that gap.

Thanks for the Convo Guys. Nice talking good hockey no matter what your opinions are. All you guys are very knowledgeable. Much appreciated.

It's a great conversation bc there is no name calling etc
We may disagree but it's been done in a gentlemanly fashion.
While I know it is different circumstances but the year Skinner was traded to Buffalo the Sabres were in First place near the end of the year.
Many sports pundits thought it was time for the Sabres to trade away picks for players.
Let's not presume sagacious sports writers from the Athletic offer sound advice.
Savoie could easily become a pt/gm forward and we will all regret trading him and a first for Meier.
The Sabres do not need to add scoring, they need defense.
BTW when Timo was 20 he needed 36 games to get 6 pts, Peterka and Quinn have that many GOALS at that age.
Let's not make any more Murray mistakes.

Let's be clear, trading away Jack could easily have been the big trade to make this a playoff team considering how well Skinner and Thompson play with Tuch and that Alex has more pts and goals than Jack.

The need for defense goes without saying but this convo is about acquiring Meier or not.
Would I trade Savoie, no
Would I trade Kulich, no
Would I trade Ostlund, yes..why... we are stocked at centers like Savoie and Kulich can play the wings and if injuries occur they can move inside
One of those 3 is expendable and my choice would be Ostlund.
As for this being a Murray move that's not true...you can't hide under a rock bc Murray made a ton of gaffs.
Adams isn't going to make a ton of moves moving what he has collected. There isn't enough room for every prospect on this roster.
Meier being here helps take the pressure of the first line, improves the second line and that has nothing to do with Peterka and Quinn
they're young and will improve but there's nothing saying that they will turn out to be what Meier is. Don't say we don't need more scoring bc in the playoffs you need all you can get
bc the checking becomes that much tighter.
What amazes me is a team like Boston who is playing lights out but also interested in these players and doesn't have close to the prospect line to outbid anyone. If the price is right you make a move like this.
It doesn't hamper this teams progress. The years Murray did it we had no pipeline whatsoever and he was giving firsts away like breath mints.

Of course Boston would want to add to their roster, their window is closing, ours is just opening.
Even if the Sabres traded for Meier they still need a LHD and RHD.

Still amazed at that McNabb and 2 2nds for Fasching and Deslaruis(spelling) trade. We are in a way better spot Organizational wise now than we where than. Paid all that to bring in ROR and Kane and such and never built the supporting cast to go with it. After those trades we had nothing in the caufer, we were bare.I would really have No problem with the move. As the long as the contract isn't wacky. This trade would only put a scratch in what Buffalo has now prospect wise. I don't see Adams going nuts and making 23 trades like TM.

Bostons window has been closing forever...but they just keep on trucking every year.
They make a trade or two every year to keep it going.

There's no arguement from anybody about the need to shore up the D but easier said than done...it's a position most teams need and there is less of them to go around and
when you get a good one you don't part with them and if a team does part with them you are going to pay for it.

Most of the D-men on the trade lists start with a 1st round pick, which D on our team after Bryson you trading to make room for whoever we would bring in and you also have to consider if they are tradable.
I'd like Schenn for Power but I think he wants to stay in Van and they can sign him cheap
