The expansion draft have nothing to do with Detroit getting a 4th to retain 25% of Savard at trade deadline.

nvm its barkov. since when does the #2 Dman in scoring and probably number 2 in the norris not make the all star game lol.

Barkov is the captain of the Florida Panthers and the game is being hosted by the Florida Panthers.

Leafs fans were saying the same thing about Willy, but Barkov going does make sense.

It technically did as teams were forced to pay more to get deals done for rentals. Without the expansion draft in the way Foligno and Savard would have went for less heck may have not been traded at all as Toronto and Tampa would have went for guys with term

As we saw last season the return for another team retaining on Domi was a 6th so expect the same

Actually money is more important in the 3rd team renentions, teams have to pay salary still. Toews had a 2.9m base salary with double retention that’s paying a pro rated salary of 725k for the double retention team

Savard had a 4m salary, so that’s 1m prorated that a team was playing for a 4th round pick

Shouldn’t be that expensive to double retain toews bc if his salary

Forgot about that as I thought Savards deal had a bonus. Didn't realize it was the full 4mill ouch

But yea I would be very surprised if anyone gives more than a 6th for a third team to retain on someone like Toews,Kane who I believe both are only owed 2.9mill

A 4th is probably what gets the job done but it’s not a financial road block to get him double 50% retained if he waives. A third team can buy a mid round draft pick for a few 100k
