How about Bennett for Girard?

FLA need a Top4 LHD, COL needs a 2C.

Imo that trade benefits both.

That'd be wild.

I think for a while, most people were operating under the assumption that the Central would get 5 teams in the playoffs. That's looking less likely at this point.

Girard has negative value. I think COL would have to throw in some picks/prospects to make it happen. That being said, I can see why both teams might explore this option.

I asked in the previous thread

We all see the same lists of guys who are likely to be traded at deadline (Horvat, Toews, Tarasenko, etc).

But if you had to pick one unexpected player who could be traded before deadline, who would it be?

And here were the answers thus far...

Brian Dumoulin
Adam Henrique
Alexander Wennberg
Pierre-Luc Dubois
Jesse Puljujarvi
John Marino

...any additions?

A few RFAs to dangle maybe?:
DeBrincat
Hoglander
Dermott
Fabbro
Comtois
Bjugstad..........

Well yeah I had Blues as a lock for playoffs but I don't see it happening anymore. Mokumboi in shambles.

Seems like four and four case to me now.

Seriously doubt he has negative value in the eyes of GMs despite struggling this year.

He's owed $5M AAV for the next 4+ seasons. You don't think Sakic would rather have $5M in cap space than an offensive D that who provides limited offense and struggles mightily in his own zone? Maybe he rebounds next season, but he's been declining for awhile.

The ironic thing is that that contract was what brought him value not so long ago.

Imo Girard's issue is that both Toews and Byram have overtaken him in their depth chart, and he's not suitable for a role in bottom-pair. Still, I wouldn't say he's bad player by any means and has rebound potential.

Maybe COL needs to send a pick or to FLA's way, but imo Girard could thrive in Florida, since he doesn't have similar kind of pressure or competition there. Girard-Ekblad would be a solid pair imo.

Colorado is currently missing Byram, Makar and Manson due to injuries, they kind of need Girard right now, at least until they get healthy

This would be closer to the deadline I reckon, but with healthy lineup Girard is expendable to them.

Plus they'll probably acquire a depth D-man by the deadline, similar to what they did with Nemeth a couple of years ago. Something like bringing Jack Johnson back with a 7th rounder...it worked last year for them.

Kevin Labanc.

If the Sharks are committing to a full firesale then it makes more sense to sell for assets this year due to the strength of the draft class. Sure, you could ship him as a pure rental next year but with term he probably fetches some quality draft capital.

Devilish takes

1. Bedard will be a Coyote next season

2. This trade deadline will be one of the busiest we've seen in a while

3. Two southern market teams make the Cup Finals

4. Quinton Byfield will be the next Tage Thompson

I'd challenge the second point. There's not many rentals available, nor there are much cap space available for the buyers.

I'd wager we'll have the most boring deadline in years, although I certainly hope that is not the case.

Zegras, McTavish, Gaucher, and others

Like if Anaheim gets Bedard they arguably got the best young C core to build around
