Nah, the BC brainiacs are buying out Garland to facilitate this, aren't they?

If there is a smart GM out there, you trade for him now (expiring contract mid/low pick)

Win? Yes to the contract but for an organization no where close to completing trading Kuzmenko for a haul was the play.

IMO

I think the ownership has no interest in a rebuild, so the General Managers are just playing the hands they've been dealt. The GM's clearly don't have a mandate to rebuild; I'd argue they most likely are getting contradictory signals from ownership.

So then you see confusing decisions like this one to stay competitive.

Was hoping we could trade Kuzmenko for futures but hopefully this means Pettersson won’t demand a trade later

Kuz signing basically guarantees that the Canucks can’t overpay Horvat for 8 years. Only 2 years for Kuzmenko is super manageable

Good signing if he can maintain his 24,7% shooting percentage. If not, they'll regret not trading him this year for a big haul.

Any takers for Korpisalo?
He is having a sneaky good season after getting healthy.
At 1.3M coming ufa he could fill in as a 2nd stringer quite nicely.

I think Seattle might be a good fit for Korpi if they are looking to beef up their goaltending at the deadline and the trade cost isn't too high, though to be fair Grubauer and Jones have been better lately. I just prefer Korpisalo to the other goalie options that will likely be available this trade deadline.

55 points would be a decent production, but 18 goals would be disapointing. I don't think they'll regret having the player for 5.5M, but the picks they could have got.

Apparently the Canucks are interested in Michael Rasmussen if they trade horvat to the red wings.

Well obviously if you cut anybody’s shooting percentage in half their goals totals will be lower. I expect Kuzmenko to regress to a 17-18% shooting percentage. Very good net front/deflections type player meaning his shooting percentage will likely be higher than the average player. Gets a lot of dirty goals

Good thing they kept him. He said he loves the city. That's a 2 year bridge deal to show how good he is. He will probably extend long term in 2024.
