There's a tweet above explaining even if they miss Lou could still benefit

Unless he get a good extension, not a chance isles benefit

Going by MatthewsFan's point on SEA and Horvat there actually could be a very interesting trade

As SEA could go out and get Horvat and Mayfield in the event NYI are out by March 2nd

Well it depends by the TDL teams overpay and with Horvat costing 2.75 mill (if nyi retain) there will be teams who will go here give u this package for him. As with the flat cap a 2.75mill 40 goal scorer gonna have value and teams on the hunt for Mr. Stanley gonna go **** it

So 4.125 mill for Horvat. And if Lou was to retain on that in that 6D chess match Horvat would cost his new team 2.0625mill

If they are out by March 2nd Lou could potentially trade Horvat and get more back

With the new details and potential for an extension Lou could walk out of the deadline with a potential better return than what he paid

And if his pick is 12 OA he keeps it

Now losing Raty's gonna hurt but if SEA goes hey give u Wright for 8 years of Horvat hes taking a W to go

Basically 5D chess rn

There's a good chance Ovechkin sits out so replace him with Horvat and maybe give the open Pacific spot to a Kraken player.

There’s no one from Washington to take his place then

This is My take on why I think its terrible for the Isles: (Also copy and pasted from my twitter so might sound wierd without context)

Raty has 2C upside imo, Beau is still a decent middle 6 winger and you got a 1st on top of that. Horvat imo isnt gonna top this year production and has a big boy extension pending that they cant really afford confortably with an already meh roster.

2nd response in my convo:
I just don't see Horvat ever topping this season. He's been well below PPG every year of his career. Nucks could completely fail at developing them sure(the prospects). But isles just doubled down on a mediocre roster without any prospect pool.

That’s true but what he comes to NYI, doesn’t improve or anything and the isles are out of the playoff picture, and then you can’t trade him for more than you payed? Then it looks pretty stupid.

Here's what I think about the Horvat trade.

Isles get a solid 1C-caliber player who can, and probably will, play in the top six at C in Horvat.
Canucks get a middle-six caliber young-ish player in Beauvillier. They also get a high-end centre prospect who could replace Horvat eventually if they dont screw up his development in Raty, as well as a first round pick.

Today, the Canucks win the trade. No question about that. Beauvillier could still bounce back and become a top six guy, Raty could definitely become a second line centre, and they get a probable 2024 1st round pick. Horvat's also definitely not scoring this much again

however, i think that the islanders may be able to scrape something out of this deal if they can sign Horvat to something reasonable like a 7x7. they'll get a good 2C for a long period of time and could maybe uh

yeah no i think the canucks made out like bandits in this trade but dont quote me on this
