With the amount of time arguing about stats and data maybe we should just have this chat create there own data and maybe have a comprehensive understanding of what it means.

I'm trying to get people to talk about what analytics/methods/things they use to determine how good a player is defensively. Feel like the conversation needs to move beyond arguing if charts are actually good or not and maybe trying to understand what the charts are saying and what their limitations are. Or when you watch the game what things you notice a player does to be good defensively.

Counterpoint: ACGM isn’t supposed to be realistic, it’s supposed to be a place where one can propose concepts and options that are different to that of NHL GM’s normal paths

Well, yes, but they should resemble nhl trades. 5 players and 4 lower draft pick for an elite player is stupid.

So who is going to make the #3 for the CF guide to AGM trades? I figured someone else would jump in with another rule already.

Jeremy Bracco is elite

looks super weird, 53 is a way better number because it was unique, theres dozens of guys in the league who wear 14 although have 13 and 14 down the middle is kinda funny

A coach in the NFL just got traded for a 1st round pick, I wonder if the NHL could ever do something like that. would be very intriguing, always found it weird that assistant coaches in the NHL could sign coaching jobs while they're still under contract with another team.

NHL Flashback 2017:
John Tortorella's hiring by the Columbus Blue Jackets after his stint in Vancouver has netted a 55th pick as compensation for the Canucks

EDIT:
Pick #55 Vancouver selects Jonah Gadjovich (in 2021 was waiver pickup by SJ).

Yeah that was for rights though, not really the same thing. NHL banned it because it was stupid. I'm talking about an actual trade. Martin St.Louis for 1st + Prospect for example

It’s hard for the casual fan to evaluate a players defensive impact because it’s usually things like being in good position and having your stick in lanes preventing a pass that contribute to good analytics. When you’re watching a game it’s not easy to remember every single action from a certain player. Offensive impact is a bit easier to judge from the eye test , but even then you still need to use a mix of analytics / eye test

Most Fans measure defensive impact by work ethic/hits/physicality

Devils “traded” both Lou Lamorielo and Pete Debour for 3rd round picks. (Those picks are Linus Karlsson and Reilly Walsh today).

* league awarded compensation

Yeah thats surprising. The defensive boost came out of nowhere. By WAR it looks like hes being carried by Nick Seeler a bit (his most common D partner), who is in the 96th percentile in EV Defensive WAR/60. The Seeler-Ristolainen pair actually has strong xGF% and GF%, while Seeler's and Ristolainen's other pairings have pretty poor xGF% and GF% rates. Maybe its just a chemistry thing where Seeler and Risto's play styles complement each other?

Whats weird is that Risto has one of the best xGA/60 rates on the team but when it comes to actual goals his GA/60 rate is one of the worst on the team
