Monahan Question Mark

Created by: PhillyDip123
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 24, 2023
Published: Jan. 24, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just curious what y’all thought. Smaller bet, but it keeps Knies instead of swinging for Horvat or Meier.

It’s completely unrealistic, though, because he didn’t play for the Greyhounds in the OHL.

Maybe Monahan's favorite dog is a greyhound though which might be enough, really have no idea how deep Dubas' greyhound fetish goes... 🤔

If nothing else, this trade wouldn't work because Monahan will 99.9995% be injured before playoffs, or in game 1.

The picks themselves arent the as much of a problem the year is.

I dont see a scenario where Hughes gives up monahan without atleast a 2nd from this draft coming back. That gives them more flexibility for this draft which they need if theres a guy they want in the top 15.

The habs would be willig to give something back to get the 1st out of Toronto (it will be a late 1st so not o the same value as a team closer to the bubble.). If they obtain a mid-late 2nd elsewhere or their own 3rd which would be sitting around 70ish.

I understand that he had a good 25 game start to the season, but the next 22+ games would be more important to me if I was a GM thinking about trading for him. He's had a long injury history before this year, and now he's missed nearly half of this year so far with another injury. He needs to come back healthy and show he can maintain that production for I would even think about paying a premium asset for him, even with the retention.

There is no reports on what Monahan injured this year, the only thing that has been said was during Hughes mid-season presser. He said it was an unlucky injury, something that could have happened to anyone. Since we know it was a right foot injury as reported by Marc Antoine Godin and Hughes said it was an unlucky injury, my best guess is a broken foot (6 weeks recovery time also fits this as he was skating in a non-contact jersey today) or rolled ankle or something of that nature. Since acquiring teams have access to injury reports then they would know going in that it's not a recurring injury and nothing they had to worry about.

Valid points - I do wish NHL teams would drop this veil of secrecy on injuries, on a side note. I get that guys are more susceptible to day to day injuries and I'm fine with keeping something a guy's playing through a secret, but it would be nice to know what long term injury a guy might be dealing with - I'd be willing to bet (pun mildly intended) that we start seeing more transparency with this as sportsbooks become more entangled with the league.

I agree and hopefully it will happen soon (it has since the NFL introduced betting)
