Definitely need to add to the Ottawa trade kiviranta sucks and motte is a solid 4th line PKer.

Same with St. Louis trade would require a 1st, gurianov is basically a cap dump for y’all and Harley doesn’t have the potential he once did

Hmmmm. This is certainly going to make the Blues think reeeeal hard, but I'm not sure you're quite there for them to hand Vova to Dallas. But they're definitely still listening.

I wouldn't say that. He's been blocked to a fair degree, and is still just 21.

We do not have any young LDs nearly as good as Harley. Even if Loof actually hits, which I'm skeptical of, he's a 3rd pairing guy at best. All the other prospect LDs are 18 and 19. As for Krug and Leddy, obviously one would be going out the door to somewhere else somehow.

I highly doubt they trade us Stankhoven. Of course, I also doubt they trade us Harley, but here we are.

I see that but again rn we have
Krug, leddy, Scandella, Mikkola, Scotty p, Rosen, Tucker, Smakurov all pretty much nhl caliber
again with loof too its such a big log jam.
But if we are able to get rid of like 3 of thses guys for forwards or forward prospects / picks then id take harley in a heart beat

Also yes ik scandellas hurt but he may be back next season

Okay, well setting aside that Harley has way more value moving forward than any of those guys, let's go through them.

Krug, leddy - at least one would be moved, hopefully whether they can score a Harley or not
Scandella - not sure how fit he'll be moving forward, and if he is, he can be a 3rd pairing/PK guy or be moved for a reasonable cost
Mikkola - a UFA, though perhaps one they want to keep
Scotty p - stay on one piece for long enough and then we'll talk
Rosen - he will be in the mix somehow
Tucker - has looked pretty good for the most part, but again, not a top 4 guy
Smakurov - barring some late development blow-up, he's pure depth

And as Army has learned from every playoff run since we won the Cup, you can never have too many capable D-men. Half the guys you listed are dirt cheap, and three of them can safely go to the minors if needed.

Kiviranta has 13 points in his last 105 NHL games, not sure he has much value. On the other hand, he's a cheap RFA forward who still has potential and Motte is a UFA.

NOPE. Kiviranta is a UFA. So this deal makes absolutely no sense for Ottawa.

Good point, I thought I read it as RFA.

Yeah, so this doesn't make much sense because Motte is better at every facet of the game than Kiviranta.

Yep. And even if we were interested in signing Motte again for next season I still think we'd move him for a pick at the deadline and then approach him in the off-season.
That's the smarter play. He'll likely get us a better pick than anyone else on an expiring contract (unless DeBrincat is getting shipped).

Don't hate this. If Harley won't do it for STL as others mentioned we could likely swap for Bourque and move the 2nd to a 3rd to balance value if possible. It sounds like Ottawa likely won't want to do this which is fine because we are cap compliant with Kiviranta and he is a valued forechecker and penalty killer for us and member of the Finnish mafia.
