I would simply not trade for and extend meier.

Keep building and don't break the bank for a guy entering his late prime who will tie up cap well past his prime

Agree fully that we let our forwards develop together but Meier not late prime at 26 is he?
Quinn, peterka, even Mitts were high round picks. Mitts starting to show possible potential so give youngsters a chance
I’m happy and amazed by Tages progression. Maybe why gms love first round reclamation projects so let ours grow

If the Sabres are in a playoff position or near one at the deadline, then yes, would be a guy you want to target. And if you’re going to be good in the NHL, you’re going to have some guys on your team signed into their 30’s.

Signing Timo Meier, a guy who is arguably every bit as good as Tage Thompson, and a legit power forward, who drives play by himself is worth it, and that’s arguably the reason behind the rumored interest because Cozens is advanced and ready to win now, but his linemates are not there yet, and for the team to make the playoffs, this year or next year, they will need to get there.

Not every single young player and prospect on the roster is going to pan out or reach the levels we think, and there is also not room for every forward prospect we have to make the roster, some of these guys were drafted to be traded

There’s a reason most Sharks fans what to keep him.

Trading massive assets for a player close to UFA age and then handing him a massive contract is insane asset/cap management and roster building.

If you want to spend a prime asset, do it on someone with term and/or younger

Physical players primes end quickly.

If I am doing that trade, the only thing is I probably want to get Nick Bonino in that deal.

Main reason being because although he’s a headache at times, the Sabres will miss Mittelstadt on that third line with Olafsson, and Bonino gives them a guy who can chip some occasional secondary scoring but most importantly, play late in games, and take key face offs. He’s not dominant in the dot, but 51% from the dot would still be our best faceoff man, and he’s a guy we can put out there to protect a lead, which is an element we lack

He’s not 29 he’s 26c which makes a difference. He easily has minimum 4 good productive years left, 2-3 prime years.

I guarantee you are going to want to re-sign Alex Tuch when is contract is up at age 29 if he’s still productive. Good teams end up doing that.

We aren't trading assets for Alex tuch when we resign him. We also won't be paying him 9 million
