Kylington’s not coming back, not this year anyways, but even if he did, we wouldn’t part with Zadorov. We love his Size & Physicality and Penalty Killing

      I think Zadorov’s value has gone up. A 3rd wouldn’t be enough. It’s probably a 1st or very early 2nd now.

      Imo:
      Hanifin-Andersson
      Weegar-Tanev
      Kylington-Stone

No need to put an expensive player on 3rd pair. It’s useless

      Zadorov-Weegar
      Kylington-Tanev
      Stone

Under $4mil isn’t really expensive and you’re better to have balance and more even playing time rather than loading the top 2 pairings with crazy minutes and hoping your bottom pairing doesn’t fail you. We’ll have cheaper options NHL ready soon in Gilbert, Kuznetsov and Poirier

I’d be trading Kylington or Hanifin before Zadorov as well. Hanifin will be looking for a big raise after next season

I think if the negotiations go south a trade of Larkin to Columbus is really possible. They can sign him and Detroit can get a young piece of two and some picks. They add Larkin and get a top 5 pick come the draft.

Columbus is absolutely loaded with players rn. Why not do a sign and trade for either Larkin or Horvat. Ya know

If we had a better 6th than Stone, we could run that pair more often. Having him down there and able to step up when Tanev goes down makes him worth it.

3.75m isn't really expensive considering his skill and size. Factor in that all our D are on pretty nice contracts, I don't really see the issue.

I thought Stone had a great game and stepped up big in Tanev’s absence last game, especially on the PK, but I agree he isn’t as Strong Defensively or consistently Strong enough anyways to be ideal. I think he’s been great for us though overall, considering he makes the league minimum and is supposed to be our 7th/Injury Replacement D-Man

Don't get me wrong, I like Stone, I think he's doing just fine especially considering his price.

I am a bit sick of that blast missing the net, it really kills offensive pressure when that thing almost bounces right back out of the zone.

I would be very happy paying him to be a 7th if we had someone a bit better to step up.

It's not impossible, but given that that's a UFA advance negotiation situation none of the more significant names would be made available. But, hey, maybe that'd still be worth it for Detroit.

That said, I think Yzerman still gets it done in the end.

I only came here to find this after putting numbers together, and CBJ is a real threat to lure Larkin away from Detroit. Still close to home, have cap space, and they have Larkin's BFF. Beyond that, they have better talent coming through their pipeline with Sillinger, Johnson, top 5 pick this year, Jiricek, Mateychuk, Marchenko...

We shall see, And the only reason why the CBJ can even afford Larkin. is that Jakub Voracek is likely done so they can put him on LTIR and clear his $8,250,000 for another season.

They don't even need to do that. The OP is conservative with cap space here, only assuming it goes up 1M. If it goes up 2M, that's another 1M for Larkin. Plus, with such a young team, they can play a 22 man roster if need be.

As it stands right now, The CBJ have slightly over $11,100,000 to sign 6 players. Larkin by himself eats about 95% of that cap assuming he gets around $9,500,000 to $10,000,000 per from the CBJ that's without Voracek being on LTIR. So technically the CBJ really don't have the financial means to sign Larkin. Definitely no more than us.

Unless I calculated incorrectly, CBJ could sign Larkin for 9.5M and have 2.6M left to sign 1 G and 1-2 skaters if the cap went up 2M. That's without any trades.

Even with a cap increase of $2,000,000 that only gives the CBJ $12,100,000 in cap space - $9,500,000 on Larkin leaves only $2,600,000 you're not getting no backup goalie and 1-2 skaters for that. But if Voracek goes on career ending LTIR. Then yeah it's quite possible.
