Seravelli

Created by: nmstars31
Team: 2022-23 Vegas Golden Knights
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 25, 2023
Published: Jan. 25, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Seravelli mentioned VGK as a possible landing spot for Dumba if Minnesota opts to move him and Stone's injury lasts longer. Tarasenko is an add to make up for Stone. There is roughly 1.5M in cap available to make other small moves with Stone on LTIR but I wanted to show the likely playoff lineup with this squad. There is obviously a problem with McNabb locked up for term as the 7th D but that is a problem for the future that will likely be remedied by banishing him to Arizona at a cost or utilizing the tendency for older, physical players like himself and Martinez to spend quality time on LTIR.
Trades
1.
MIN
  1. Brisson, Brendan
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
Using the Manson trade last year (COL 2nd and Helleson for 50% retention) as a comparable, Brisson a former 29OA who can hopefully become a cost controlled player to slot in with Boldy in the near future.
2.
VGK
  1. Tarasenko, Vladimir ($3,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
The Blues decide to finally pull the trigger on moving Tarasenko as they are outside of the playoff picture and build around Thomas, Kyrou, and Buchnevich
STL
  1. Korczak, Kaedan
  2. 2023 1st round pick (VGK)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
Vegas needs to make a splash and improve their top six without Stone so they pull a big name without paying the Meier - Horvat - Kane premium. The strong play of Pachal and potential to resign Dumba (with the cap from Brossoit, Hill & Kessel) makes Korczak expendable

Bill Guerin said that he wasnt trading Dumba unless he could make his team better. Not sure if he would go for a prospect and pick considering Minney is currently in a playoff spot.

So basically the Knights Will depleted all of their picks and prospects for Matt Dumba and Vlad? At some point this team
Is going to be a bottom dweller with nothing but 30 something’s eating up large sums of cap space

Yes, the assumption is that they have a change of perspective or in the standings.

Yes, lets not pretend its out of character for Vegas to go all in for a championship. Go all in when your window is open and then bottom out for top talent when you're old and wasted. For teams like Carolina, Nashville, Dallas patience and a solid mix of contention while considering the future to always be in a playoff slot is nice but I don't think anyone believes that is Vegas' strategy

I’m not thrilled about the Blues dealing with VGK.

But this is a very competitive offer.

I considered not including Korczak but I like to stay on the side of overpayment with these trades to demonstrate that the team can afford the player in question. Plus the market for Vlad can heat up quickly by teams that miss out on Meier Kane Horvat so it is important for a team like Vegas without the top end pieces like the Devils (Holtz Nemec) or Rangers (Laf Kakko) to make a strong offer early

Sure and agreed, BUT at a certain point they are going to have to keep a few prospects or picks around, no? Why in the world would they go hunting for Matt Dumba. With respect to him, Vegas’s MO isn’t to go small game hunting. When they hunt, they go on a safari.

Using your argument they should be Chychrun and Horvat.

I think if you were to level out a bit due to a lull in the market. The way to do that would be by switching the 2nd to a 3rd which is very reasonable.

I think a first and korczak is a good baseline

I think Chychrun is disqualified because Vegas needs a RHD and he will be much more expensive than Dumba. Not to mention the post is inspired by Seravelli speculating VGK as a possible Dumba suitor.
They will probably go after Horvat too but I doubt they can beat other suitors, plus I like Tarasenko because of all the Russians in the VGK system. Also he has cup experience and a history with Pietrangelo.

To your point around prospects, Most of their core is signed for foreseeable future with only a few roster spots to fill in the next year or two. To that effect they have Dean, Dorofoyev, Miromanov, Cormier, Pachal and others that aren't well known but is favoured by the org (every team has these). Plus they can fill with cheap free agents.

82 points last year and names mean more to casual fans. I'm sure many fans rank him higher than Horvat (wrongly mind you)

I doubt VGK moves from Brisson, seeing as he's one of their better prospects. Rumours were VGK was interested in Gavrikov?
They'd probably just part with a 1st to beef that D core.

STL trade seems fine. If they're sellers.

Yea no on that Dumba trade. Brisson needs to stay unless he’s going out for an under 30 C/W. We don’t have a need for RHD, Theo supposed to be back after all star break. He’s already skating. He plays right and so does Petro. We’re not trading a 1st plus for a bottom pairing defenseman.
