Initial Creation Date: Jan. 24, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If the team can get healthy, and all of Newhook, Erod, and JTC can continue to play well, then I don't think the Avs needs a ton in order to make another run. A 4C to replace Helm and a play driver for the third line would suffice. And both should be affordable.

I really think Puljujarvi is a fit in Colorado. He won't suddenly become a top line player or anything like that, but he can settle into a third line role with other hard working and talented players.

Bjugstad = '23 2nd

otherwise Yotes should resign him to another 1-2m deal

I agree that it's a bit light, but I also think a 2nd is too high. Could add a mediocre prospect or make it the 2025 3rd, but that's really all the Avs can realistically do, seeing as how they're pretty slim on picks.

only prospects AZU would be interested in are ANNUNEN or BEHRENS straight up or COL can move on to someone else.

I dont think he nets a 2nd, especially a 23 pick. Hes not that dissimilar to Tyler motte at last years deadline who only went for a 4th. A 3rd is probably fair for him at this point

there is 0 chance those guys are involved in any talk for Bjugstad. He is not even remotely close to a level that gets a teams top prospect.
Temper your expectations my man

If it's salesmanship you want, then can I interest you in a meticulously polished turd?

Gotta go with Coga here. No chance either of those guys are on the table for Bjugstad. Fwiw, the Avs won't be able to offer up a fight on a new deal for him. Yotes can still sign him after the year.

lol in what way is a LW Motte who never scored 10 at more money compare to a righty center at 900k who hits, drives possession, has scored and is on pace for 20+

they are defensive depth players who were having some offensive pop getting closer to the deadline

Bjugstad is 3rd in icetime of all Yotes forwards, you are playing him like a top line player, getting some PP2 minutes/ hes not going to score anything remotely close to that on a contendering team, he will be in the bottom 6 having his ice time cut in half

No one is goign to trade top 60 picks or top prospects for a 4c on a contending team. Tempter your expectations on the return and what the player is

COL top prospects are not top prospects, tempter your expectations on them

sounds like you should trade for Tyler Motte then bud

I said a teams top prospect, learn the difference before you start puffing out your chest

I also said motte went for a 4th so a 3rd is fair, so maybe digest all the conversation and all the points made before you start adding snarky passive aggressive comments like your last line

I think there is a small chance for a second, particularly if they are willing to push it back to 24 or 25. Just takes someone important getting hurt on a contender in the next 45 days or whatever it is between now and the deadline. He offers great bang for the buck/cap hit. Showing he can play and produce with top six minutes is a plus, not a negative for teams looking for depth. They'll just want to know he's capable of being a good bandaid through the end of the season and playoffs.

But I agree, a third is about right. If enough teams are interested maybe a third and a middling prospect that Arizona has a particular interest in. Outside chance at more than that with a bidding war, but no-one is offering up blue chips for Bjugstad.

If the price on a 4th liner is a 2nd rounder, you’re right: Avs should check in on Motte instead of Bjugstad. Because that’s well out of market for Bjugstad’s value.

If you want a few more comps from last year’s TDL: the Avs traded a 2024 5th for Andrew Cogliano. Calgary traded a 2024 5th for Ryan Carpenter. Dallas traded a 2024
4th for Vlad Namestnikov. Oilers traded a 2023 4th for Derrick Brassard. Jets traded a 2022 5th for Zach Sanford.

The price for bottom 6 depth on expiring deals is like a 4th-5th round pick.
