Trade Deadline

Team: 2022-23 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 25, 2023
Published: Jan. 25, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Devils made into a playoff position a year sooner than I thought they would, and I do believe they are a true playoff contender! Since it’s just the beginning, I wouldn’t go spending high prospects and draft picks on rentals to go all in (like LA last year). I’ve been seeing a lot of Meier to NJ trades around here, and that could work for them as he will be an RFA and they will have the rights to sign him to an extension. I’d try and get that done before his massive QO hits though.

I don't think Meier will cost more than Holtz and a 1st.

Detroit accepts.

Holtz and a 1st should do it for Meier, Elliotte Friedman keeps saying that Timo Meier will return less than Alex DeBrincat.

It makes sense because NJ has plenty of spare prospects to make a TDL deals but...
what happens if they just don't do anything?

Their young core is strong and will just get better and then their prospects will develop to fit the team. Seems like they have time to be patient. The window is just opening not closing

why is what Friedman says the word everyone hangs on? Debrincat’s return was viewed as underwhelming and made in haste, no one applauded Chicago on their return. Meier is having a better year (clearly) the sharks don’t have to move him and Meier has stated he likes San Jose and is willing to resign. if they do move him it has to be for a 1st this year a high level prospect and i would assume a few other pieces, and the sharks honestly have 1 1/2 to wait for that return. sharks have all the control here.

But Holtz + 1st would be more than Debrincat got.

Holtz > 1st/Korchinski
2023 1st > 2022 2nd + 2023 3rd

While I 100% agree with your statement and the ideology of patience and growing from within, NJD have a team capable of competing for the cup but could use a real power forward finisher like Meier and with an extention that would set your team up nicely for the future.

the 23 1st at 7th OA maybe but a range 24/27 23 1st is not worth the same as the 22 7th let alone adding the 2 other picks

The 2023 1st has more value than a 2022 2nd + 2023 3rd.
Holtz has more value than Korchinski.

Holtz + 2023 1st > 2022 #7, 2022 #39, 2023 3rd

Yeah I kinda said that in the description. They could put off the Meier deal til the offseason.

Someone is paying a high price and it will be for this season so if you wait he will be gone! plus NJD are a goalie and a power forward away from being able to match up with Boston!
