So you overpay (super heavily) for Dubois and then make a ludicrous trade for Boston to way overpay for something they super don't need? This is just weird

I dont know anything more than you or the next guy but I honestly think that if Dubois is going to come to Montreal it's on a discount. If he doesn't want that then that's fine but I don't think they pay anyone over 8million aav but we'll see with Caufield. Just a guess from me though.

If I’m Dubois, I try to get Winnipeg to overpay large on a 3 year deal, and walk into free agency at 27 and 7/8 x something large also. Gives the jets to play him for two years and then move for what is needed before year 3. Just think it’s easier to get paid now, and then 7/8 year contract, rather than trying to tack on 2/3 years on after 7/8 seasons.

Yeah, it's extremely unlikely he signs at that far below market value long term. He's done everything in his career so far to maximize his earnings when he becomes UFA. So, I don't see him suddenly abandoning that strategy at the point when he can finally cash in.

I could understand if Montreal wants to hold an internal salary structure, but if they want him to sign that low, he won't be going to Montreal, he'll just go to the team that is willing to pay him market value or more.

That's fair, and I imagine everyone involved would be okay with that. He's welcome to come home but it isn't for 10m+ but someone will offer him that

Yeah I don't think the blues do this. Parayko fill a top pairing spot on our team. He is probably more suited to a 2nd pairing role but if we trade him we have a huge hole. I also don't see the blues being at all interested in Anderson. This trade just doesn't fit role wise and what the blues need

Depending on the term, I imagine it starts at a minimum of $8.5 and goes up. If he keeps rolling as he has been this season, he won't have a problem getting the contract he wants.

As I said you obviously have never seen him play. 2C's don't produce over PPG. Take off the clueless glasses.

Habs should just wait a year and sign Dubois as UFA, if he so intent on being a Hab.
If I was the Jets I would take that deal, and then sign some player for 8m long term.
Parayko doesn't waive for Habs.....though that's an interesting swap for Anderson.

Who’s coming to Winnipeg? Even for 8 million, I would rather overpay Dubois 3x27 plus than give someone an overpay or overterm for a replacement. A ton does depend on scheifele and helly contracts, if they want top money or to move on, going to be the busiest off-season in franchise history.

Has he ever had a point per game season in his nhl career? I know he’s there this year, but outliers don’t get overpaid that much

He’s 24 and coming into his own with some quality talent, you talk like he is 29 and a skinner type signing

Look at what Hintz got for a comparable. Dubois is younger and better.

No, I’m acting like one outlier season doesn’t get you paid like that’s the norm.

You're right if you can get PLD to extend, that's what you want. But if wants to go the Trouba route and wanna leave the Jets for UFA, you might be best to get what you.
You're right about Sheifele and Helly....Interesting times indeed, m but a lot of teams have the same situation. The same with the Leafs at TDL 2024. Let's say the Leafs management don't think they can win with the group do they trade Matthews, Nylander, Brodie in February 2024, no Cup run but retooling for the future.

You may be right about 2C, but so is Horvat (behind Petterson), and folks are talking about Horvat making at least 8m. PLD is three year younger.
Maybe 8m is the going rate.
