Avs Pre TDL Team

Created by: coga16
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 25, 2023
Published: Jan. 25, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
As they start to get healthy, with todays trade, avs look like they can roll 4 lines with more confidence now.

Nieto probably is a sign that Helms season is indeed over, so they solve the bottom 6 depth issue without touching future assets, just swapping change of scenery prospects. Will have to trust the pro scouting staff on this one, they nailed it the lat time with Bigras for Ryan Graves swap

Tidy piece of business for the Avs, now they can just focus on a midddle 6 fwd (preferable one that can play C) and a depth Dman.

Got to agree I think they look for a bottom 6 C guy strong on the forecheck, pk, and face offs like Sturm.

still can, Malgin can eat hot dogs in the press box and Meyers who has looked a lot better of late is shown he could fit into a bottom C role in time.
Feel like there is more pressure off the avs to pick up a depth guy at the deadline now paying an up price bc thats just how deadlines go.

But if they do pick up a Henrique for example. and they activate Landy.
That makes Newhook Compher Erod Nieto Cogs and LOC as their bottom 6. No complaints with that mix

They can be more strategic and target guys

I also wonder what they have planned for Merkley. I’d fully expect him to spend the season in Loveland, be the #1 guy but his skating, transition game and that he is right handed creates some depth and options.

I think hes fully in the AHL this season, but as a waiver exempt guy, avs could try him out when needed down the stretch to give some guys a break.

Behrens and Merkley could be a fun pair in the AHL come spring time

They check in all the available full time centres who are pending UFAs. Toews, Horvat, ROR, Monahan. They probably check in on guys like Henrique as well, could see them check in on Bennett in Florida. Maybe in Hayes in Philly

I think they go with the most cost effective C option that can fill into their middle 6. Either pay a moderate price on rental or look at a guy that has some term but fits their salary structure next year.
I really don't see the moving prime assets for deadline pick ups, they will be more selective this year
