23-24 Different Looking Team

Created by: Rooney
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 26, 2023
Published: Jan. 26, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team might be a stretch but I wanted to throw a different looking squad out there than the ones I typically post.

I think Toews is a realistic option next year and as much as I think O'Reilly would fit well with WPG...I'm not sure WPG is a realistic option.

This team has a lot of F depth but losing PLD will sting. Could add another top 4 D as well but then we would have to move someone out.

Thoughts?

Let's say Montreal refuses to pay that price. Where else can you trade him to get what you want?

There are going to be a lot of teams willing to pay a price like a 1st and a good prospect even if it’s just for 1 year of PLD. His worth as a rental to contenders is easily worth that. The guy is going to be a 85-90 pt player this year. His QO is only like 6.6 million. Jets can easily get a 1st and good prospect back from any contender looking to add a top line forward for one year.

MTL takes a risk not trading for Dubois. Sure he may end up in FA anyways and become a hab, but what happens if he goes to another team and loves the spot and stays there? MTL loses out on their hometown 1C. It’s a risk either way for MTL whether they pay for him in a trade or gamble on FA.

LA; they have Byfield and Turcotte provided they are interested.

But The Pick has to be TOP 10 protected for HABS to even consider

Jets need to get out of that appleton deal. Move him to ARI with Heinola please and thank you.

I’d like to see the jets trade for Meier this year. The guys an absolute stud and Chevy talked about seizing the moment if an opportunity presented itself at the deadline. That easily could be taking a big swing.

Toews could be acquired at this deadline and brought back next year for sure.

The jets need to acquire a top 4 RHD badly….

That is my exact worry. MTL should* be fine waiting one more year since I can't see them contending next season. If that's the case, then WPG is in quite the predicament. They can either move him at next years deadline for a typical rental price...but if they're in a spot where they're contending again that will be tough. If they hold onto him and lose him for nothing that would suck. Ideally, I would like PLD to at least sign a 2-3 year deal with WPG while their window is open and then let him move on after that which should fit MTL's window.

I agree with all of the above man! Could you imagine Meier and Ehlers back together again?! Awesome!

Here is what I think will happen in order of most likely

1. PLD signs 1 year with the Jets and is either traded later or kept as the Jet rental for the 2023-24 season
2. PLD is traded at the draft or between the draft and FA (probably to Montreal for a 2024 1st + Prospect + Cap offset/roster player)
3. Montreal OS PLD for 6.2 Mil x 1 year forcing the Jets to take a 2024 1st and 3rd or match and trade him at the 2024 deadline or if in the playoff picture keep him as their own rental.
4. PLD signs long term with the Jets
5, PLD is traded at the 2023 TDL (slim to no chance this one happens but included it anyway lol)

This is a very relevant point: "what happens if he goes to another team and loves the spot and stays there?"

For now we hear rumors that PLD wants to play in Montreal. If he's traded to another team as a rental, loves the spot and decides to stay there, then everything he said about his desire to play in Montreal was just a tactic where Habs are used as a leverage to get the contract he wants. That's why I'd prefer to sign him as a UFA in 2024-25. I'd then be sure that he really wants to play in Montreal.

Would love to see Meier with Scheifele and Ehlers. Would be a great line. Also Meier with Connor and Dubois would be great too.

Jets have some prospects to move as their window to win is now. Chevy wants to take advantage of the moment if something comes up. Jets also have a lot of cap space to work with. I think it’s the perfect storm for a big move. Not to mention acquiring someone like Meier softens the blow of a PLD loss this summer. A lesser C can play with two elite wingers. It’s harder to have an elite C play with bad wingers.

I think this whole MTL thing has been a negotiation tactic. He’s never once said he will only play in MTL, just that ever hometown kid would love to play for his hometown team and that he’d love the opportunity to play in MTL. The only thing that’s really been guaranteed is that he intends to test FA which I mean every player probably says behind scenes to get more $.

Either way I think jets either keep the player, or move him to the highest bidder.

The only thing I don't like in this trade is you put Dvorak in the trade but to use him as a LW ?
MTL don't want to part ways with Dvorak, could we replace him by Hoffman ?
Dvorak is the perfect 3C for MTL, even if we acquire PLD, he still remains MTL 3C, we don't have anyone else (the only two options are Owen Beck(19yo) and Jake Evans) but then no 4C xD
