Description

NJD fans have been so focused on finding the big fish winger (usually Meier).

An alternative would be spreading around assets into a few different moves.

For example...
- Vilardi
- Boeser
- Tarasenko
- Graves
- Depth dman

...And keeping Holtz, Mukhamadullin, (both with 2+ years on ELC), our 1st, etc

Other names I considered here: Tatar, Bennett, Nelson, Roy, Comtois, Nyqvist, Henrique, Monahan, Barbashev...

Additional Details:

Hard to predict where Blackwood's value will end up by end of year. He could be non-qualified and become UFA (his QO is $3.36 million) if NJD feels Schmid is ready. Blackwood save percentage is 0.872 at home, 0.911 on the road. I just don't think he is comfortable in NJ any more and needs the change of scenery.

Bahl could be 3rd pair LD at fairly low AAV for next year. While his puck skills have improved, I am not sure they will be good enough for top-4 role (maybe at apex of his career). But the 6'6" 230 lb LHD will be provide a positive impact defensively for 24th ranked defense. His one-ice GA stats have been good this year.

Too much? too little? It includes 22% retention on Boeser for two years, which alone probably costs a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

McCarthy is a stay-at-home, defensive RHD in his final yer at Boston University. He has earned his reputation as being the top, defensive partner to offensive LHD's. Look through the seasons his partners have had:

For Vancouver, I was thinking a Rathbone-McCarthy 3rd pair may be a fit. McCarthy hasn't signed yet, so there is a risk he comes UFA in August.

Pucks and Pitchforks and Locked on Devils were taking about Boeser. I do like the idea of getting him at a lower value too if he can regain some of his form.

Canucks need to clear cap space.I cant see them retaining any cap to trade him.Just my opinion.

There is no ask for Vilardi, because the Kings aren't looking to move him. They put a ton of development work in on him getting him through injuries, and he's paying that patience off with dividends this year.

If I had to put a cost on him, you're looking at a top-4 LD in a hockey-move. Not a move for futures. So any trade would likely revolve around Siegenthaler or Luke Hughes. Neither of whom New Jersey is keen to move, I'd imagine.

Bahl+MackBlack+picks (or other stuff) could give some ammo and cap space to acquire that LHD. But I don’t think we could help otherwise. Maybe Ryan Graves rights, but that is worth only late pick.

Graves is someone I'd be interested in for the TDL, for the right price.
