CBJ aren't trading Boone jenner.

And no sane GM is touching Nick Robertson with an injured shoulder either.

Why not? If the right offer is on the table I'd think Columbus would be willing to listen.

As it is, The CBJ needs Center depth. So trading their best center makes no sense. Pretty sure they'll be a team looking at Horvat or other Cs

Kerfoot and Hirvonen are both centers, plus they can use the 1st round pick to draft a center. That's center depth.

Blue Jackets fans rejected a Nylander for Jenner/Gudbranson trade in another acgm; should give you an idea of how high they value him.

Kerfoot is a 3C at best, And Hirvoven has no NHL experience. No reason for Jarmo to make that move.

The Blue Jackets aren't a team looking to enter some 5+ year rebuild. Kerfoot is beyond valueless to them, Hirvonen would be 7th on their depth chart after Johnson, Sillinger, Roslovic, Kuraly, Voronkov and whoever they draft in 2023 and a 2024 first is a joke of a return for Jenner. The Leafs flat out do not have the kind of assets that would interest the Jackets enough to trade away their heart and soul team captain that just signed a team friendly 4 year extension last season and will likely sign another extension at the end of his current contract. All of you Leafs fans clearly aren't capable of putting in the effort to understand how much Jenner means to the Jackets, but you'll continue to have it bashed over your heads that he is not available so long as you keep making these proposals. The Leafs aren't special, Boone would be a perfect fit on 32 teams with how the cap is these days. They're not getting him.

That LA trade is absolutely ridiculous.

LA probably wouldn't part with Byfield unless it's to obtain a proven impact player that they really want, and obviously that's not being fulfilled in the package. Would they trade him for a massive overpay in futures? Maybe but probably unlikely mainly because there's probably no GM desperate/foolish enough to do so but also there still is a level of risk here trading a high draft pick before he's even played 100 games. Even if LA viewed the Knies as a similar caliber player, the sweetener in Robertson (likely injury prone) and a lottery ticket won't be enough. Not to mention that LA is going to need a C for the future, not wingers which Robertson is and Knies probably projects to be in the NHL.

From the Leafs' perspective, there is absolutely no reason to be giving up 3 of their top assets for a guy who hasn't proven anything yet (which isn't a knock on him) considering that they are a team that wants to win starting now, not in 4-5 years. Giving up that haul for Lafreniere (or even Jenner) would make more sense than Byfield but even that would be extremely foolish. Quite frankly, probably any rental on the market would be more valuable or just as valuable to the Leafs as Byfield would be at this stage of his career.

Trades are like this are a gamble for both sides, but high picks do often get traded. Usually it's one for one, like Laine for Dubois, or Drouin for Sergachev. Since the Leafs don't have an equivalent prospect to Byfield they will have to overpay with multiple prospects and/or picks.

Obviously this trade won't happen, but I just wanted to remind people that crazy trades can still happen. Not everyone who will move at the deadline will be UFA or RFA.

-The Kings aren't going to trade their 20 year old, #2OA pick when he has less than 70 NHL games under his belt for a guy that hasn't played professional hockey yet, a guy that has only played professional hockey between his long stints on the injured list, and what's most likely a late 1st in this year's draft. But, as @GMBL says upthread, the Leafs also shouldn't make the trade - basically, at this point, everything in this trade is a lottery ticket that hasn't paid off yet. While Byfield might have a statistically higher chance of cashing in than the other three pieces, you're still trading 3 potential futures for 1 - just bad value here, IMO.

-Columbus easily rejects. As CBJ fans have said ad nauseam on these boards, Jenner is their heart and soul, their captain, and he's signed to an eminently affordable deal. You are going to overpay by a *ton* to get them to move him out. Giving up a pending UFA in Kerfoot (minimal value to a seller like CBJ), a project like Hirvonen (a 5'9" C with bottom-6 projection), and a 1st that's not even in this year's strong draft class is not going to be nearly enough to get the Jackets to budge.

Robertson is not a very good sweetener at all. The 1st is very late.

Laine and Dubois were both disgruntled (reason for trade) and both had several seasons under their belt, so even if they hadn't reached their peaks and still have potential, what they are was know.

As for Drouin, he was a headache for TB (reason) and Montreal wanted him because he was a local kid and was hopefully going to be the goal scorer that they needed.

My issue with the trade proposal isn't that it is crazy, but I just don't see any sense in it for either team even if you ignore the risk factors. LA and Toronto are both looking to compete, and Toronto is in a win-now mode, so neither team is going to just do prospect swaps for fun. In terms of needs, both teams are trading away a player that would be hopefully filling a need for them in the next few years if not sooner for a position of strength. So, I don't see any motivation for either team to do this trade.

Something that would be out there but unlikely would be Byfield for Meier in a 1 for 1. No one would anticipate that because it doesn't make too much sense, but at least one team is doing something. Or if you said Byfield for Lafreniere if you wanted it to be a swap of young players.

Pretty much sums it up. The Leafs aren't special, every team would take a Jenner. Of the entire Jackets' roster, Werenski, Gaudreau, and Jenner are the only three who I'd label as "unvailalbe", even though every piece has its price. Of those 3, in terms of how much you'd need to overpay market value to get the player, Jenner wins. Team-friendly long-term contract and captain. As close to a soul a team can have.

It would be the equivalent of the Leafs trading Tavares, only our Tavares makes about half of the market value for the player and has been here twice as long. It would be like a mock trade 3 years from now for Matthews if he signed for 6x$10 when his deal is up. in It doesn't make sense, it's insulting, and isn't happening. Stop.

Exactly. If we want to get into semantics, as most Leafs fans want to do when Jackets fans say Jenner isn't available, of course every player has a price where a GM would say yes. Jackets fans are talking within reality though and any realistic trade offer is not worth trading him for. None of the prospects the Leafs are willing to part with is going to be better than a depth player on the Jackets long term and late firsts are the kind of thing you get for players on expiring contracts that you're not re-signing rather than your team captain that you just named and signed to a 4 year extension. The deal would be absolutely ruinous to the Jackets superb locker room culture and would rob their emerging stars of a model example for leadership and work ethic that is incredibly difficult to find. They're already likely going to be losing Gavrikov and Nyquist at the TDL and Voracek is probably done. Losing another veteran player this year is a complete non-starter.

Man, if this site could go like 6 months without a Canadian fanbase trying to shove some horrid, detrimental trade idea down the throats of CBJ fans while trying to convince us that it would improve the team that would be a very welcome change of pace from the last while.

Yes yes and yes. I made an ACGM team to get some more thoughts out on what it would actually take to pry Jenner from Columbus, if anyone is interested: End-all Jenner-To-Leafs Trade
