Don't want the 5 x 5 for Mayfield lost on anyone commenting on this.

I would add Holtz to that list. I think it will be pick-heavy package if it comes from Devils. NJD has the depth to include multiple pieces. And Grier has spoken about improving the depth of their prospect pool (see his comments after draft).

Mercer, Nemec and Holtz should probably all be in the “not untouchable but very low probability” bucket.

Im not sure it will be pick heavy as Grier said something along the lines of wanting young energetic players recently, it has been interesting to see which prospects devils really really like and prefer to keep when other orgs/people/ and even other devils fans aren't as high on.

Astute insight. I think you are dead-on with that last sentence.

Personally, I try to watch or read all the interviews with our GM, coaches, scouts. They will often tell a lot just by their actions.

The investment the team is making in Holtz now is significant. The power play unit will practice, then run through their shifts again with Holtz. The players are invested. Brunette has spent countless hours with Holtz on and off the ice. Probably our future head coach is invested. Their video coach has regular 1-on-1 sessions with him. They have kept him with team so he can travel, adapt to life with team, and get the extra reps with NHL players, extra attention from NHL coaches.

My point is this -- Does all that sound like a player they want to trade? While Fitzgerald has never come out and said he will or he won’t, he doesn’t need to.
