Devils win the trade, but sharks get a former 7th overall pick, first and 3rd + fringe starter who needs a change of scenery and not get injured. It's not completely lopsided though

Sharks aren't giving up picks whatsoever in this trade. Grier is going to start at Mercer/Nemec and work his way down. The only way Grier takes on Blackwood is if the Sharks trade away Meier which consequently will result with more picks + prospects coming back from the Devils.

What does Blackwood offer to the sharks that Kaapo khakonnen doesn't already give us? I would say it heavily favors the devils because timo is already elite (former 9th overall) for holtz who has a high probability of being very good/ fringeeeee elite? (from my understanding of lots of interactions with devils fans) what will likely be a late 24' first. If this was the offer id rather sign meier

I think nemec is a little ambitious from the sharks perspective and probably an untouchable in the devils org

Nemec and Luke Hughes are likely the 2 untouchable prospects within the organization.

100%. That's why you bid high. If you start at Holtz + 1st then it just rolls downhill from there.

More than likely. That's where we would start the conversation more likely with Mercer.

I agree that the Sharks won't be giving back picks, but I highly doubt Mercer or Nemec are on the table. Holtz is likely the prospect that goes to San Jose.

Probably in all likelihood that's where the deal lands. But, to be competitive in terms of negotiations, it's likely Holtz + Shakir + 1st round pick (top 2 protected or turns into 2024 1st round)

I highly doubt it’s Holtz, Nemec or Mercer (maybe single digit chance for any of them).

We have tons of assets to move. Mukhamadullin, Foote, Casey, Filmon, Zetterlund, Gritsyuk, Bardakov, Salminen, McCarthy, Bahl, Thompson, Walsh, Clarke, Stillman, Vilen, Brennen, etc plus probably any two picks.

Not sure why everyone keeps including a player (Holtz) they are clearly not moving.

I could see Mukhamadullin, 2023 1st, 2024 1st. Maybe even another prospect (will depend on contract)

But highly unlikely it’s includes Mercer, Holtz or Nemec.

It would be great for the Devils to keep Holtz and offer up some of the other prospects you mentioned. The only issue is that the Devils 1st round pick this year will (thankfully) be near the bottom of the 1st round.

SJ will likely want a top prospect like Holtz, just in case the 1st they're getting, turns into the equivalent of a high 2nd round pick.

I could see that if both picks are lottery protected, but not top 10. Add in Nolan Foote and I think there's a chance Grier accepts. Sharks fans will still be upset without getting a potential elite prospect.

Maybe top-2 on 2023, top-5 in 2024. Could easily see us parting with Foote, but would you even want him? Skating is an issue. Big shot, but an average NHL Mascot has better edges. More attractive options would be Gritsyuk or Filmon (Gritsyuk probably takes that 2024 pick down a round or two). Maybe Zetterlund who can play now. I don’t know….I feel like there are lots of options.

The competing thought is Meier’s contract demands may limit the amount of bidding teams. It is VERY rare for a top-25 prospect to be dealt. Even more rare when they are dealt with a 1st and for a player without a contract (last may have been Lindros). And Holtz has 2+ years on ELC.

If Meier says, “I will sign a $7m anywhere”…Sharks will get big return. If he says, “I will sign $9m plus” or “I only want to play in these couple of cities”….not so much

It's going to have to be painful for both sides to make this trade happen. Painful for us to give up an elite winger that is only getting better and entering his prime. Devils have to give up an elite potential prospect since we're not going to get an early 1st round pick like the Debrincat trade (7oa). That's where Holtz has the comparison.

That is a untenable case to make considering Sharks GM just traded #11 for #27 and two 2nds. He is clearly okay with multiple pieces…which NJD has from years of selling and stinking.

I am talking about getting multiple picks instead of a #7 pick or #11 pick. So his scouts can still choose.

Keith Yandle says they are not making the playoffs. So that's 16 or better in my book!
