As a rental thats a good deal. If he comes with a contract you'd prob have to add another prospect.

No, just no. Can we PLEASE stop with this Horvat lunacy. If he makes it to FA, we take our shot then, but trading for him is just poor asset management.

Furthermore, Wallinder should be considered untouchable right now, as well as any and all 1st round picks.

Wings will need a lot more star power eventually, and we need to get it any way we can. I would not trade this years 1st, but if Wings could get a young guy like Debrincat, I would not be against the idea of trading a 1st in the future.

We're just not close enough yet. Trading a first is a move you make when you're RIGHT there to compete for a cup, not just trying to make the playoffs. Drafting and developing is where your stars come from (Seider, Raymond) and if you get lucky, you land a big fish in FA occasionally. Even the FA angle isn't always great, because you're paying for what players have done in the past, not what they WILL do, which further emphasizes the need to hit on drafting and development.

Hopefully Kasper, Edvinsson, Wallinder and Cossa all turn into what we all think they will be and then we're doing pretty well. Then, if you get lucky on guys like Mazur, Hanas, etc, then we're in REALLY good shape.

Trading for and THEN paying a boat load to a guy who is having a career year (during a contract year, at an unsustainable ~22% shooting percentage) and would be in his mid 30s at the end of the contract is not great asset management.

Don't get me wrong, I like Horvat, but as a FA target, not as a trade target. Roll the dice he makes it to UFA and take our shot then, if not, so be it.

It's hard to tell this early what the Wings are gonna look a like in year or two. Look at the Kraken, Devils or Sabres, I don't think anyone expected them to be this good this year. Not saying we should trade for Horvat. But if there is a YOUNG guy like Debrincat on the trade block; I wouldn't be against it.

Disagree with your opinion on Horvat. He likely signs with whoever he is traded to unless he goes to a team as a rental without the cap room to retain him like Boston. A team being able to give him an extra year at 8-9 million is a huge difference maker. I agree that Wallinder should be untouchable but i would rather move him then Kasper or Edvinsson. Having Larkin, Horvat, Copp, Veleno down the middle for the next 5 years would be a real solid group.

It's just not smart asset management to make a trade like that at this stage:
