It's a great contract but it buys only 2 UFA years and he could've gotten a haul at the deadline. Idk what Vancouver is doing at this point lmao, but I love Kuzy and hope he enjoys Vancouver. I just don't see the point of signing Kuzmenko for 2 years and with a M-NTC when apparently they're cleaning shop everywhere else. If they we're gonna sign someone it should've been Horvat.....

Teams 50yr past history sucks, welcome to more of the same in the near future...

Think it good for the Canucks, as they keep a productive player. If Kuzmenko continues to play well he will still have good trade value, even at TDL in 2025, if a trade is needed by the Canucks.
The advantage of the Canucks trading this year, is they would get a future young asset and 5.5m to spend for the next two years. I think the Canucks made the right decision.
a real half-ass of a contract. The AAV is fine if you think he's gonna be a solid 30 goal scorer, but he's only 26 - why not give him more term than 2 years? I think that's the part that sticks out more to me - it's noncommittal. too scared to try and cash him in as a rental this year but too wishy washy to commit to him long term - why not lock him in for 5-6 years at that AAV seeing that you're going to be paying JT Miller & OEL big money for those years??
Would've made more sense to trade him for at very least a first round pick. Canucks aren't going anywhere this year and are likely going to be treading water for the next two seasons.
Apparently him and Pettersson get along well so I've been under the impression that keeping him is apart of keeping Pettersson next season.
Could be, but I think what this really means is that the management team isn't interested in putting up the white flag and trading their newly acquired players just because they haven't been able to move some of the iffy contracts they inherited. I'm sure this is just the beginning, and management probably won't be able to do absolutely everything the want to in one off-season, but I'm sure they won't come away empty handed
5.5 is a good value for Kuzmenko, however it doesn't make sense for Vancouver to keep him, when they could have trade him for something.
Vancouver isn't interested in moving their newly acquired players just because management inherited some contracts they haven't been able to move yet. They're not going say uncle like that, and they're not doing this to cut off their nose to spite their face. They're not going to trade players whom could still be part of the solution
value-wise the contract is fine, but it makes zero sense for them to resign kuzmenko when they could've gotten a haul for him... which is what they need to do
Are you kidding me? Seriously, are you kidding me? They weren't getting anything close to what your definition of a "haul" likely is. Kuzy doesn't have the track record to warrant that kind of trade value, no playoff performance precedent etc.
Nice value contract from what he showed so far, just the wrong move for the team
Should 100% have traded him
Why? This team needs to move the players that have been around for some years, not their newly acquired players. Kuzmenko's trade value wasn't even that high
Agreed. They should have traded Miller at the deadline last year. Instead inked him to an extension and a contract that no team will want. Oh, and VAN is a dumpster fire.
They'll get out of it. None of what they've done is any worse than your Bruins signing Mitchell Miller, and it's not our fault you don't recognize that the trade offers for Miller weren't that enticing
good value for the sign, but Vancouver is merely treading water atm, they cannot commit to winning or losing for a purpose, and this is going to be seen as a catalyst for this
Good sign, but awful timing
Wonder if this signing is to try to get people to forget the bruce boudreau situation
This isn't a cut off your nose to spite your face type of move
In my opinion, kuzmenko should have been traded. Whether you want to view him as a rental or not, chiarot as a rental got a 1st+ and while that will never happen again, kuzmenko is worth a 1+a B level prospect at the least+a later round pick
Chiarot is a defenseman, very diffferent market for D-men than wingers in case you didn't know

Canucks haven't sucked for the whole 50 years. Not winning a stanley cup doesn't equate to sucking always, but definitely sucking for too long
Good contract, confusing time... Why aren't you trying to sign your captain instead of Kuzmenko? I voted yes because good contract and easily movable if needed
