The flat cap is one thing, but track record and sample size is another, something of which Kuzmenko doesn't have a lot of. That matters, and managers usually aren't comfortable buying high in those scenarios

True. But I just think Kuzmenko brings a fair bit to the table. Lots of teams could use a better net front presence, and this year's trade deadline market isn't packed with cheap options

Kuzmenko isn't part of the problem, that makes no sense

Vancouver needs to be selling everyone over the age of ~23 for futures. Kuzmenko probably makes them a better team now, but the potential return from a deadline trade would help them even more down the line.

As Brian Burke says so aptly, teams need to either be trying to race to the top of the standings or trying to race to the bottom of the standings. I'm not sure how a 2 year deal for a 26-year old player helps them do either.

He earned the money. He's becoming a core piece for us that we need to keep long-term though. I would've preferred 5.5 5 years though.

Chiarot is a defenseman, very diffferent market for D-men than wingers in case you didn't know

Of course i know that, but then you offset that with the fact that kuzmenko is 10x more talented than chiarot. What is your point here?

Management doesn't believe the team needs a scorched Earth rebuild the way everyone outside the organization does, regardless of if we believe they're wrong to have that kind of thinking, and no, ownership is not puppeteering them from the shadows. Only time will prove whether or not we are right

Kuzmenko's ELC is probably one of if not the most valuable contract in the league thats moveable

I see it like the Brendan Hagel trade last season, his very good play along with his contract was super valuable to a cap strapped team like Tampa, obviously Kuzmenko was a UFA not an RFA so the return wouldn't be quite the same but I don't see how there isn't a huge push from many teams to get him, he definitley had good value, now he's only locked up by VAN for the years where they will still suck and sell off other pieces around him

Maybe they'll trade him still next season if he really pops off and its totally worth it to have not traded him now but this was a good chance to cash in on something you knew you had instead of gambling

Brandon Hagel had term and CHEAP COST CERTAINTY last deadline, something which Kuzmenko does not have, as he is a pending UFA. Guys, Kuzmenko wasn't as valuable of a rental as you all think, I don't know how many times I have to say it

I'm not sure how else to translate "this roster needs major surgery" other than "scorched Earth rebuild."

Lmao you're so butt hurt about the dumpster fire in VAN that you're responding to everyone that is criticizing them. Why don't you go start a riot like in 2011 when they lost the Cup.. to the Bruins. 😉

No, I'm just dealing with the facts, and you're sorry ass can't even acknowledge were your favorite team went wrong off the ice, despite all the success they're having on the ice

One doesn't necessarily equate to the other. Saying that they do equate to one another can arguably be chalked up to mono-dimensional thinking

I am over it. Hopefully for Canucks fans, Kuzmenko turns out to be better.

It's literally written in the sky. From the ownership, to the management team, to the players. It screams mediocrity.

They're not mediocre right now either

My bad... 8/8. Horvat is >>>>>>>> better than Miller+1.5 mill. My point of "sign your captain" still stands

Miller got 7yrs x 8M. Horvat is at most worth the same total money, but if he's looking to get more, he'll get it from another team. Rutherford said they've already given their best offer for Bo

Because Horvat is the better player

Yes, and is looking for a ridiculous pay-day which the Canucks would be foolish to oblige him with

What's yours? You literally quoted half the website's users in this thread, seeking validation you haven't gotten and won't get.

Voted no because it doesn't make sense for Vancouver. They should quick start the retool and trade him for 1st + more. Instead they keep him around which hurts their chances at a lower draft pick.

Horvat is worth at least 2 mill+ more than Miller. Rutherford made the wrong decision x2 and refuses to try and fix it. But that's nonsense, why try and sign your best player/captain???

Are you kidding me? Seriously, are you kidding me? They weren't getting anything close to what your definition of a "haul" likely is. Kuzy doesn't have the track record to warrant that kind of trade value, no playoff performance precedent etc.

whatever he'd get in a trade would be much more valuable to the nucks than whatever he's gonna help them with in the next two seasons. not like theyre gonna contend at any point soon lmao, the team stinks

additionally, what do you yourself get out of responding individually to every person who said the kuzmenko signing doesn't make sense

Well Burke is an expert about his teams racing to the bottom. Of course he traded first rounders so he didn't have the benefit of having a poor season
