The Kings have no need to dump Petersen. They can stash him in the AHL and buy him out next summer for a negligible cap hit.

The Kings aren't giving up a 1st round pick for Jake Allen. They'll stick with Copley before they go that route.

While Seattle could use another defenseman who's good in their own end, they don't need a blueliner so badly that they'd give up a future first rounder plus for Joel Edmundson.

You’re probably right re: Petersen vs Allen. A buyout may be more likely than burying him for 2 more years as it still costs them 3.875 against the cap while he’s down there.

But lord if the other 3 deals were to happen, it would be great! 🔥 🔥 🔥

Maybe, but a lot of Kings fans complaning about they allow too much goals against each games, and Allen is a solid back up goalie for Quick.

What do you think those type of dmen cost at the deadline? GMs have seen plenty of Edmundson in the playoffs, the body of work at that time of year is impressive. People said the same about Chiarot last year and Savard the year before that.

Pheonix Copley has more wins (14) since his debut on December 6 than any other goaltender in the NHL. He's doing just fine.

Seattle need a down-pairing dmen who have somes greats playoffs experience (like Edmundson who went twice to the SCF and won a cup back to 2019).

And UFA after this season I think?

Still a "no" from the Avs. They are not trading a 1st for an oft-injured Monahan, especially when they have two better options already on the team.

He is, but the Kings will extend him before giving up a 1st for a backup goaltender.

Over 5m cap hit on year one of buyout isnt negligible.

No you’re right, it’ll probably be a 2nd that becomes a 1st if certain conditions are met around Monahans # of games played and their playoff success.

That's why they're going to buy him out next summer, not this summer.

2023-24: $3.85M cap hit (in AHL)
2024-25: $1M buyout cap hit
2025-26: $2M buyout cap hit

Negligible.

Ah, the Montreal Greatest Hits, all in one place:
1. Josh Anderson for a ton;
2. Joel Edmundson for the Ben Chiarot return;
3. Cal Petersen and a first because LA has to move the $5 million cap hit; and the zombie that simply WILL . NOT . DIE:
4. Thirty games of Sean Monahan with 50% retention to Colorado for their 2023 first.

I'd be surprised if Monahan brought back much more than a 3rd. And I don't think he's a fit with the Avs anyhow.

The chances are better -- much, much better -- that you'll hit the parlay instead of me. In particular, the chances of #4 going your way are less than 10% and the chances of #3 going your way are less than 5%, so that makes you a 1-in-200 shot.

Literally MTL fans have to stop. Monahan isn’t worth a first. COL isn’t giving up a first for him. The dude hasn’t played in almost 2 months but MTL fans cut and paste an awful trade non stop.

No doubt a great deal depends on when Monahan returns, what he does and whether he’s still healthy at the deadline.

To spin the conversation a little, do you think they add a 2C before the deadline?

The fact that all of theses trades are based on the price that Kent Hughes ask for theses players show how he is a great GM and show for others teams thinks that Habs fans are ''allways'' delusional.......

I wouldn't say it's impossible and there are always surprises but I do think it's highly unlikely. A "true" 2C - someone like Horvat - is going to cost way too much and is likely to be a rental which the Avs simply will not pay the price for. To me, one of the best ideas floated is Henrique; he'd be worth giving up that 2024 first if the Ducks retained. The second-best option is probably Toews but I doubt that works out. If I had to lay odds on the Avs picking up someone that could plug-and-play at 2C, I'd say it's 85/15 that it doesn't happen.

You know Detroit got a 3rd just for retaining 25% of Savard salary at 2021 trade deadline right?

I don't doubt that the Habs might extract a first round pick from someone for Edmundson this deadline, I just don't think it'll be from the Kraken. Edmundson just isn't enough of an upgrade over Carson Soucy to make that kind of investment worthwhile, and Seattle has plenty of defensemen already with extensive playoff experience. Their issue is more one of depth, since as a new franchise they don't have a surplus of manpower if multiple guys are hurt at once. So if they end up trading for a defenseman, in my opinion it'll be a smaller depth deal for a 7/8th blueliner, not a blockbuster.

Umm Horvat is on pace for 53 goals. He’s more than a “true 2C”this season, hence the high price.
