Blues pass. If it doesn't start with a 23 2nd, it's just not competitive.

What does Bonino add over Engvall these days? Moves one of Kampf or Holmberg out of their natural position AND we pay the 3rd. Nah.

Barbashev - like I guess maybe if we can't do any better, but aside from the one outlier season last year what makes him an upgrade on Jarnkrok? I don't know about that one either. Both defensively reliable, same number of points yet Calle has played fewer games

I think someone like an Adam Henrique is a much better fit. if you are moving cap the other way, you could probably do it without retention which would keep the cost down and likely under a 1st. He'd be the scoring left winger that the Leafs need as well as center depth in case one of the top 2 goes down. He's a much better fit than someone like Barbashev ... and he comes with term.

Bonino just doesn't seem to be worth the cap space in this. He's not really bringing anything to the bottom 6 the Leafs don't already have.

Tbh Henrique will likely cost a 1st especially if they retain or take back cap. He’s been the 1st line winger for Anaheim and also plays centre and can win draws

Taking expiring cap back at the deadline isn't worth anything. It's retention that would push his value up but the Leafs could get it done without it.

he's actually settled in to the 2LW spot well enough of late, I'm in the less popular school of thought thinking if we get another top 6 winger we should move someone down to drive their own third line kind of deal. Jarnkrok has been fine, and decently productive with those guys. Good defensively and especially of late productive in his role.

I love the Barbashev fit, not so much Bonino. I don't think he's either the player that fits what the Leafs currently do or that gives them an extra element.

This is just making moves for the sake of making moves. I am not sure either new guy is even better than Engvall this year. It's just moving deck chairs. If you aren't adding an impactful piece just leave it alone

Probably best to add 1 forward and 1 defender, rental D-man but perhaps someone with term for upfront (might be challenging without giving up the 2023 1st) or an RFA like Puljujarvi if the price is right.

Curious as to why?

He is on pace for 45 points, 21 goals, both career highs. Plays the 4th most mins on the PK of all fwds. Can play up and down the lineup, all for 2mil, pretty nice value to me.

Bonimo certainly isn't an improvement over Engvall (or Kampf) Barbashov is putting up Kerfoot numbers and no team is offerering the Leafs a 2nd and 3rd for Kerfoot.
