Another very silly scenario where Meier is resigned by the Leafs. Please show the 23/24 Leafs roster which has to be dismantled in order to fit in Meier's cap.
A massive overpay anyway.

Dismantled? Hardly.

On this roster Meier is making 3 million with 4 million left on the cap. Don't resign Engvall, that's 2.5 million extra. So Meier can be resigned and he would be the perfect left winger to Matthews and Marner. Bunting can't be brought back, but I'd prefer the Leafs pay a true power forward 8-9 million rather than pay Bunting 5 million and Engvall 3-4 million.

Sorry your math isn't right at all. New contracts for Holmberg, Samsonov, Timmins and hopefully Kampf. Yep not signing Engvall and replacing him with 800,000 saves 1.3m, and Bunting is replaced with another 900,00 player.

Murray can be dumped, that's Samsonov money.

Timmins will get Holl's contract.

And Holmberg replaces Kampf.

The math is sound.

The leafs really need to keep Knies for his ELC. If they do get TIMO and let Bunting walk than having Knies low cap hit is a must if he's going to be that good on LW.

That would be ideal, but San Jose isn't dealing Meier to the Leafs if Knies isn't part of the deal.

The 3M line would be the best in hockey but after that would they be able to resign Willie?

Holmberg and one of the centres now.....He doesn't replace Kampf. Some player would have to replace Kmamf.

Trust in Dubas. He finds guys like Kampf, Timmins, Bunting. Every off season teams don't qualify RFAs, plus free agents want to sign for the Leafs short term to increase their value. So building the bottom end of the roster will never be a problem.

As a said, to it's certainly possible to sign Meier, but it is at the deconstruction of the current team. That's all I'm saying, I'm not saying you opinion about the need as you perceive of acquiring Meier is wrong.
Certainly Bunting, Kampf, Engvall Holl would have to replaced. And what sweeteners would have to given to to get rid of 4,7m M NTC Murray.

What Meier adds would be worth all that. The only unfortunate cap casualty would be Nylander. The question management would have to ask themselves is do they like Meier or Nylander more? And they can learn the answer to that question in the playoffs.

The sad reality is that if Tavares and Rielly are here beyond next season then that will hamper the Leafs from being creative and adding top tier talent like Meier.

Well, Tavares and Reilly are here for the life of their contracts. It's summer of 2023, when Matthews/Nylander/Murray/Brodie are UFAs, (I said for years, Matthews isn't resigning), it's how the Leafs replace those players, with a lot of cap available. Though I doubt the Leafs would be "sellers" in at the TDL 2024, imagine the haul they get for Matthews/Nylander/Brodie.
