No room for Bo

Created by: eVANder

Description
Even with buying out Pearson and Poolman, the Canucks are at least 2.7M short of getting to Bo's number (assuming he demands Miller money). They would have to move Boeser to make it work. And, honestly, I think they need to, if there's interest. There aren't many center man out there that can score and dominate the faceoff circle like Bo. And Brock just hasn't been the same since the back injury. Time to move on and get Bo signed imo.

Isn't Pearson pretty much on career ending LTIR? If so you can't buy him out. Plus you can't buy out injured players period.

Why even resign Horvat? This group hasn't done the job (I'm not blaming Horvat). Trade for futures and spend that Horvat money elsewhere.

Horvat has pulled his weight. Id say he has earned 8M. Also Vans center depth without him is a nightmare. Imagine if Pettersson or Miller were injured.
Cap will go up 1M more than whats being estimated with here, so its closer than presented. Honestly, if you need to shed cap space, it should be from an underperforming winger.

While I agree that keeping Horvat is fine, the idea of trading underperforming players is really difficult maybe impossible. So many teams are at the cap, why do they take on non value cap?

We know it can be done. Van has shed several "unwanted" contracts in the past. But it is usually at a price (draft picks). This season is already written off, so no need to explore moves like that until the summer when teams have room to play with their cap space.

I don't know if it is possible, but I like the idea of trading Bo as a "playoff rental" and then resigning him in the off season. Toronto could use a Matthews replacement and they have no cap space to keep Bo long term, maybe there's deal to be made.

The trade and re-sign in the off-season rarely works out. Bo wants playoffs, he wants to win. Once he hits free agency, he's going to have a number of teams in on him, likely offering more than Van. And if it's a team that's closer to Stanley cup contention, there's no way he comes back to Van.

So, trade Bo now (sign and trade to get more if you can). Or trade Brock for pennies and lock Bo up long term to a Miller type deal.
