The way Grier has been dealing we would be lucky to get a hand full of lotto scratchers

anyone they can move they should move; i believe it would've been smarter to trade hertl last season. re-signing meier will just cripple the team going forward

The only part of this that is accurate is the part that they should have traded Hertl in the off-season. Even that is not 100% a sure thing. The Vlasic and Couture contracts are killing the Sharks. They need to get rid of those. 9M for Meier isn’t going to crush the Sharks future.

The NYR have no reason to make that trade. Neither do the Sharks. There’s no reason to not buyout Vlasic. Simek is likely to go on LTIR. He has significant concussion issues.

He has a two yr deal and just had a baby like two weeks ago. I'll assume he's a Barracuda

if meier leaves karlsson is gone but if meier stays the sharks underlying numbers haven't been bad. If we get that top 5 pick this year inject youth next season and our cap situation is resolved by 24-25/25-26 we could easily be a playoff team in 2 years, however if we go full rebuild we are out for like 10 +

simek has been in full practice, and we dont need to buy out vlassic until we are closer to the playoffs which will not be next year, so the longer we wait the cheaper the buy out and the less time he is on our books. NYR gets a player that helps them win now, sharks get a pick and young player that might benefit from a change of scenery.

I think Karlsson will generate interest and enough interest in the offseason that he will get moved. It frees up a lot of cap space to round out a more all around team and not a one line O and one line D team

What’s adorable is being knocked out by the same team in the first round two years in a row wink

sharks lost to the kings two years in a row in the playoffs

regardless this doesn't change the fact that san jose needs to get younger, and re-signing guys like meier and hertl doesn't accomplish that.

resigning meier isnt an issue I dont think, hertl shouldn't have gotten 8 years, but either way with knyzhov, eklund, bords, guschin, robins, and tuna all having a realistic chance of being in the NHL/ playing NHL games over the next two seasons. You could even through bystedt havelid and laroque in the mix. buy out vlassic in two years + solidifying goal tending and its not a bad option. Karlsson I dont think will move because the man loves San Jose but depending on the offer and retention I wouldn't be as opposed as I would be trading meier

I would definitely move Karlsson before Meier depending on the retention. But with bordeleau and eklund coming in next year hopefully we have something that looks more like a real second line instead of a 1st line a 3rd line and two 4th lines. Our d-core is what it is -_- . We need another puck moving defenseman real bad to hopefully clean up our turnover issue, which should put us in wild card mix

I agree, I think Grier is going to do everything possible to keep Meier and Karlsson and it will be up to Meier whether he wants to stay in SJ or not. If one goes, the other goes, though probably not at the same time. 9m seems reasonable and not sure he'd get offered much more from other teams. I also don't see other teams giving up the kind of assets Grier would need to accept a Meier trade. It's fun to fantasize about though.
On the flip side, if SJ trades Meier this TDL for purely good assets and prospects it will piss off Karlsson so much he'd be more willing to waive his NTC.
