i feel like eight years for non-elite goaltenders is a lot, you can probably get him on a 4x3 or something

Is it possible, yes. Is it a priority? maybe not. Definitely not on an 8 year term.

I also don't like giving Bunting 4.5 -- just too much IMO for a role player.

yea you are right i was thinking he would want the security, even 4*4 would only take him to 29.

Really depends on how they do this year.

If they dont really compete well into the second round, why are you bringing back the same team?

IS Joey Anderson is the answer at the 4th line, he hasn;t been for 6 NHL seasons, what will change and Kampf (who's never sniffed 30 pts) is your 3rd line center, thats a real thin offense. Robertson can stay healthy and produce, McMann a quality nhler, Giordano continue to fight off father time?

Its this years team, but worse

Samsonov probably needs to be 4-4.5x5-6 or 5mx4, at least 20m+. Another option that they may look at is signing him to a 3-3.5mx2 deal.

As for Bunting, if he wants more than 4.5m, he's probably gone. I think they would want him closer/under 4m but I can see them handing him 4.5m depending on what happens with Matthews and Nylander in the offseason, but yeah the signings are all in the ballpark.

well who knows how he develops over the off season, he has 8 gp and 2 points averaging only 7-8 min a game. just because he didnt succeed in NJ doesnt mean he never will, look at trevor moore he didnt do anything great until his 4/5 season.

Hes been with toronto 3 yrs, with small callups and limited minutes and 2 yrs in NJ, you really think hes going to evolve into something he isn;t? Almost every Marlie has been called up and the list of guys who've had a longer cup of coffeee in the nhl with the leafs is massive (Malgin, Holmberg, Clifford, Lehtonen, McMann, etc....).

You really think hes a NHLer, when for 5 seasons he's shown/management/coaching has judged hes not?

Not necessarily worse, while some guys may deplete, can't expect growth elsewhere, so it's probably more or less the same.

As for Kampf, they would retain him for his defensive ability. 3m is probably more than he'll get but not by much so, the overall cap differences will probably balance out.

I just think its a weaker team, with less depth and more question marks than 22-23 with no view as to the result of 22-23 and reliance on either limited goods (Kampf a good defensive center, but an offensive blackhole or robertson for example) and an over reliance on the fact that Holmberg, robertson, knies, mcmann, timmins all taking the next step to elevate the team. And all of this while you're trying to judge whether to keep the big 4 together or move them at the TDL and semi-rebuild a defense that has 2 guys nearing retirement?

i'm sure every player would like the security, but seems like most goalies get 5-6 year deals max aside from like vasi and bob, it would be surprising to me if anyone offered samsonov that many years

We are talking about him becoming a 4th liner. He's great in the AHL so it's not a stretch that he makes the jump, he might not but it's pretty negligible. Someone else will get signed for that role and he'll have to compete for it with others.

Yes, it's possible. But gotta be 22 man roster and Bunting certainly gets more. The only option I really see, is signing Samsonov, and buying out Murray for 700,000 and 2.7m over the next two years and pray Woll is NHL ready. That's saves 3.2m next season to someone short term, and hope the cap goes up the following year when Murray buyout is more.

These are my opinions but:

I think its just symptomatic of the base of not evaluating correctly, not taking in the reality/history and over valuing players/situations. Theres a reason the Leaf base is labelled "delusional" and its these myopic symptoms to blame. Joey Anderson is not an NHLer and while a good AHLer, he has proven for FIVE seasons. David Kampf while an above average defensive player, is not a good enough offensive player for the 3rd line.

you must not watch very many games to say kampf is average defensively.

I think you're too focused on the name for Joey Anderson, just think of him as a placeholder. I don't think anyone is saying it has to be Joey Anderson or that he needs to be brought back. It's worth noting though, that the reality is that teams always have holes to fix come opening night/start of the season.

As for Kampf, he's probably going to be part of a 3rd line checking line more or less. He's going to get played like a 3rd liner, the only issue here is paying him 3m perhaps but I don't expect them to bring him back if he wants more than 2.5m. If Holmberg surpasses him then it's not a big deal depending on the AAV and term given to Kampf.

Says "above average", you missed the word above.
