I see Parayko waiving - he is from Ft. McMurray, he would be a top pair, getting paid the same money, blues are going rebuild and it's not like St. Louis is some beautiful destination compared to Edmonton...

The blues are getting a massive package, Holloway is more important than a 1st draft pick (easily a top 6 two way player), 2 -1sts, Barrie is not a cap dump (one of the Oilers best and most consistent defenseman on pace for over 50 points) and Edmonton doesn't want Pool Party but he still has 3rd value.

ROR extension hard to say; based on his quotes he's not looking to break the bank if he knows it'll be a good fit. Just a guess but somewhere around 22-25 mil in total over 4 or 5 yrs?

Look, I don't want to say that Parayko is "done", but he hasn't been great this year and he is 29. Ordinarily that wouldn't be overly concerning, but the fact that he's got another 7 years at a premium price (and the assets required to trade for him are painful) I don't think it's worth it.

And while I don't know how much ROR's next contract will look like, it's hard to imagine a scenario where the Oilers could afford it with Parayko already on the roster.

PS. You don't have cap space to reactivate Yamamoto when he gets cleared.

Edmonton's pick isn't a "late first" though, it's currently 19th overall.

Mikkola wouldn't even make Edmonton's roster (he's not better than Nurse, Kulak or Broberg), as injury cover (assuming they're confident he can clear waivers) he's worth more like a 5th.

Barbashev has had one really good regular season in his career and is well known for disappearing in the playoffs. His career playoff boxcars are genuinely bad: 50, 3-6-9 (-9). He's worth nothing to a playoff team.
