So you sit Holl, and acquire another Holl (Tanev) and give up three good assets too? This is so bad for the Leafs

Timmins has been great as a 3RD so already the trade isn't necessary.

Toronto's blueline isn't the priority issue going into the playoffs considering they've been a goal away from winning a series more than once, and their higher end assets would be better invested into someone who can a) play in the top six and/or b) allow Toronto to run an effective third line and push Kampf down to the fourth. This trade doesn't accomplish that.

Calgary are also not looking to be sellers at the deadline considering they're fighting it out for a wild card spot and would rather add players than subtract; most of their core is either in their prime or close to passing it and they need to make some deep playoff runs sooner rather than later. Tanev is a key part of their defense and I don't believe Timmins, while he's been a good pickup for the Leafs, has the same player profile that can replace him. Not to mention Tanev is currently out with an injury so they'd be looking to add to their defense instead of trading him away, if anything.

So the trade is funny because it doesn't do anything for either team. It makes Calgary worse now which is what they don't want and it doesn't improve Toronto's key areas of concern.

If you think that Timmins and Tanev are equivalent in a cup run then you've already lost the argument.

Guess it's now your turn to explain your rationale instead of writing useless comments.
