Detroit will accept that unless someone offers even more.

Ottawa isn't making the playoffs, So why would they remotely have any interest in a rental Kerfoot?

Ottawa doesn't want to be bad and tank. They still want to compete in games and win. If Kerfoot works out for them they could bring him back next year. It's like short term test run.

Ottawa can compete all they want, Bottom line is they're way too far out of the final wild card spot. And adding Kerfoot isn't going to change that.

I don't think they will take just a 1st, they are looking to compete so he'll still be useful to them next year. They probably would want two firsts like CHI got for Hagel or more, and perhaps they will take something in between a 1st and the Hagel return.

I don't see any reason why Kerfoot couldn't be included in the Detroit deal for no return.

Pleasure doing business with you Re:Kubalik. That certainly would get it done unless someone came with a higher offer. Good deal for you (term and low aav) and good deal for us since he won’t be on that contract when we’re competing.

To the hagel comment: hagel had longer term and is somewhat better then kuba. I think this is fair value.

Probably because Kerfoot has value and Toronto would want to get something for him

Yeah Detroit is much closer to the final wild card spot than Ottawa is, Kerfoot to Detroit makes far more sense than to Ottawa.

If Detroit is trading Kubalik then adding Kerfoot wouldn't be for trying to make the playoffs as they would already be out of it. Just a cap move.

Yeah, Hagel had better deal but that probably wouldn't stop Detroit for asking that as a starting price. It really comes down to which team would be interested in Kubalik and if they think that Kubalik wouldn't help them next year. Yzerman might want to get some value out of Kubalik but I don't think that would be very high on his list, considering that he would want to move Bertuzzi and possibly others. So, I think it might take something small like a 1st+ a 3rd or a prospect or cheap replacement player. It's possible though that he becomes expendable depending on what they get out of a Bertuzzi trade if that happens or he resigns, maybe I'm overthinking it.

Detroit have too many left shooting wingers; Bertuzzi, Vrána, Fabbri, Kubalík, Erne, Berggren, Rasmussen, Söderblom, Zadina.

Someone has to go and Kubalík is having a career year while at the same time having the worst +/- of them all. He is also the one with the best contract for a buyer and will therefore bring back the best return.

Fabbri and Kubalík are essentially the same player but Fabbri is better defensively, and he's signed for a year longer and is more costly and therefore not as interesting to a buyer.

That's a fair assessment, I guess if from an internal standpoint, if Yzerman sees Kubalik and Fabbri as occupying the same role then moving him for just a 1st might be something. He considers, I do think it could hinge on what they plan for Bertuzzi though. If it's decided that Bertuzzi gots to go then it's possible that Bertuzzi and Kubalik are fulfilling the same need for a contender, and considering that Kubalik is having a good season and Bertuzzi not so much (although he's barely played thus far) they might not want to price Kubalik too low.
