Sabres won't need any IR cap next year, and if they did they can find it cheaper than a 2nd

laugh laugh Sharks pass, San Jose isn't retaining 50% on Karlsson for another 4.5 years plus trading Timo Meier for 3 pending UFAs plus Niemela 2 1st and a 2nd round pick. No way is that close value for both Karlsson and Meier. Trade is a joke not nearly enough heading back the Sharks way.

Retaining 5.75 million is worth more than a 1st on its own.

Good god

Yeah that offer doesn't even come close to getting 50% retention on Erik Karlsson for 4.5 years, let alone adding Timo Meier to the deal on top of it.

Leave Meier and the three useless-to-San-Jose rentals out of the deal. Karlsson is owed $39 million over the last 4 years of his contract, so the retention won't exceed 1/3, and that alone is worth a first round draft pick. Now, do you think that the Sharks will be surrendering him for a first, a second, and Niemela?

I agree, if it's a cap dump. For example, Skinners contract is bad, he's producing well enough now that it's not an issue. If, however, we tried to trade him when his value was at it's lowest, we likely would have had to retain a substantial amount. I wouldn't expect the other team to pay for the retention- if he's a 5 million dollar player and we retained 4 million so we could move him, that's just the market. Karlsson is probably overpaid, but he's probably gonna finish as a norris finalist this year. Of course the problem is that he's making 11.5, and norris finalist or not, nobody has cap space for that. Certainly no gm is giving multiple high end futures for

I don't even think Skinners contract is bad any more, I think Krueger just set him up for failure. He has 58 goals, 124 points in 153 games since Granato took over and 40 goals 63 points before Krueger, which was a career high at the time. 187 points 235 games without Krueger, which is comparable to players at the 9 mill mark

Brodie and Muzzin.. no one giving you assets for those 2. you'd be paying picks not receiving them.

Meier... Dont want Dubas Hall of failures and some low picks
